I’m not sure which exact conversation you mean, but if you enter the key words “Premarin cream” in the search box at the top right of this page, you’ll find several conversations in which this topic has been discussed. I hope this helps!

Lynette, I also use vagifem to keep from shrinking inside and being at risk for even more UTIs.  But I was on HRT for years before it became controversial, so I’d like to know:  have you heard whether or not the hormone is absorbed by the bloodstream?  My doctor said, “Well, maybe some, but it’s a tradeoff for cutting down on the number of UTIs as you age.”

Crystalli, I just got home from an appointment with my Dr.  He gave me a prescription for Vagifem…how’s that for timing?  He told me the estrogen is not absorbed into the bloodstream.

Hello Irish Rose; My doctor told me the same thing about the e-string vaginal device I used when menopause drynes and thinning hit me. He Lied. Of course, it was not a natural estrogen, it was beta 17 estradiol, and in 10 weeks I had a lump in my breast the size of a shooter marble. Woke me up in the middle of the night with a stabbing pain in my breast… rolled over and felt it, thought ohgod i’m dead meat. That was 7 years ago. I had a lumpectomy and chemo. So far so good. SO.. I’m just saying, if you read the fine print and the vagifem contains synthetic estrogen…

It’s very good timing, except I just read at the same time the response to you from alpine flora, so I’ll have to get the insert and read it once more.  But even if some is absorbed, I suppose I’m back to square 1 again.  It’s a tradeoff.

just a note – anything you put on your skinis absorbed into the body – that includes hair dyes, mineral oil/petroleum products, etc…. I had an anti-inflammatory cream that the doctor said was not absorbed, yet the info sheet said it could affect my blood pressure!

The insert is LONG in the Vagifem packet, I read it all, as I was concerned how related to my type breast cancer which is “fed” by estrogen. I think SOMEWHERE in the writings it mentioned has been found in bloodstream, and not many numbers for the testing I noted.

The Pharmacist said he did not think I SHOULD (with my history) yet my Oncologist said go ahead.

I decided NOT to use it.

I found Me Again Vaginal Moisturizer at CVS Online.  I checked and they still carry it — search under vaginal moisturizer. I had my ovaries removed last year so I use the Vagifem which has estrogen in it twice per week because I don’t have any and I noticed shrinkage.  The Me Again Vaginal Moisturizer doesn’t have estrogen, but lubricates like I used to :) .  If you don’t need estrogen or can’t use estrogen for some reason, but have occasional dryness, the Me Again is fabulous.  It is a little tube that you insert before sex or whenever you feel uncomfortably dry.  Hope that helps.

Glad you didn’t go with the Premarin. It’s really dangerous. And it comes from the urine or pregnant mares — guess how it’s “harvested.” Premarin does not belong on the market and never should have been produced, to begin with. What possessed your dr to Rx it?!?!?!

Hi Tas; I recomend two wonderful books called “What Your Doctor Might Not Tell You About Menopause” and “What Your Doctor Mighr Not Tell You About Breast Cancer”. They are by Dr. John Lee, written in a lay-mans language yet so very in depth. In these books he details just why Premarin is so dangerous and bio-identical hormones work so beautifully with our bodies. If you google his name his website should come up. The books are sold online, but I found mine at my local Barnes and Noble bookstore. Good, Useful, Practical advice for all us Menopause Ladies!

I knew John Lee personally. He was a serious advocate for natural progesterone made from yams. I was his wife’s personal trainer for a few years, so I had many opportunities to talk with him.

His books became very popular, but every medical professional I talked to disputed his findings and his recommendations. There have been studies done that support the possible dangers of Premarin/HRT, that’s true, but not that support his yam cream solution.

My problem is “feeling” something during sex.  I feel NO sensation. I use some of the KY products and I found that Silk-E works best. . . but that only helps with the dryness, because without it, the whole experience is just horribly painful. . .So, does this Me Again do anything for the “pleasurable sensation” that I miss and hope to regain?

I’ve had a change in feelings inside my vagina not my clitoris.  I thought it was because I have nerve damage in that area.  I’m not glad to hear this for you but glad to hear this could be an aging thing and hopefully rectified.

Anyone out there use something other then estrogen to get a stronger sensation inside their vagina?  I have no problem with orgasms, or clitoral stimulation…just lack of sensation during intercourse.  Very upsetting to me.

        Hi Joan

I’ve had so many medical workups…you have no idea how many I’ve pushed for.  I’ve spoken with my gyno, pain management doc and my surgeon about this. Honestly, they look at me with a blank stare.  After surgery I noticed some sensitivity came back; but I also had used the permarin for a few weeks.  So now with everyone saying it’s dangerous (accept you) I’ve backed off it.  I have Dr Christiane Northrup on my facebook.  I’ll write to her about this and see what she suggests. I really appreciate your feed back on VN and I do trust you and take to heart what you are saying in both postings.  Thank you

If they look at you blankly, they don’t know and should refer you to a specialist in this area — they exist. I’m compiling a list of resources for my book — please remind me in a few days if I don’t post them here.

        Hi Joan

I haven’t heard back from Northrup.  I’m hoping she can give me some answers.  My spine specilist and surgeon think that if my bladder/bowel are functioning well which they are they don’t think it’s from nerve damage.  So their blank stare is who the heck is it?  Also, my gyno can’t figure it out either. What kind of specilist would I go to?

For me, a lot depends on foreplay.  If your partner is not patient or you just have sex quickly that could be an issue.  I never climax just with conventional sex.  I went to a toy party with some gals a few years ago and hubby and I both have a lot of pleasure with them.  We incorporate them into lovemaking routinely.  We’ve been married 25 years!  The Me Again just lubricates like you when you were young.  The other thing that is nice about it is it has an applicator so the lubrication is in you, not on him.  Makes penetration easier and more pleasurable.  Good luck.

Have you had a medical workup? I don’t think it’s productive to suggest remedies when you haven’t had the problem diagnosed. Sometimes lack of arousal is a sign of a medical problem, so please find out.

Vulvodynia is chronic vulvar pain. You don’t want to have it ! I am fortunate to have managed and healed after 4 terrible years but many women suffer all the time. I thought I would lose my mind….I was embarrassed to tell anyone and thought I was the only one in the world to have it. I joined a web group and made a friend with same disorder in Turkey!

I’ve been told by my wonderful 64 year old hairdresser (of 35 years) that is amazed and delighted that she got her groove back.  Try reading “Sex, Lies and Menopause” about how to get tested and about estrogen and synthetics and natural treatments.  She says she was all dried up, no libido, etc.  She says that everyone she’s told about the book and who has gotten tested and treated naturally is RAVING about their sex life.  She definitely is saying she is SOOO much happier feeling alive again.    More than topical, local results.    Good luck!

Why are we women so willing to risk our health and even our very lives just to have a penis inside us?   I’ve made it to 60 blessed with perfect health.  Why would I risk that now?   I can take care of my own sexual needs and as for a man’s needs — hey, that’s why God gave you hands.

did i miss something?  I dont think anyone here in “perfect health” is looking for help.  If they were in perfect health they wouldnt worry about it.  I have been on both sides of the fence.  I suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.  Years ago in a wheel chair it was so bad.  NO LIBIDO back then.  But believe me it was no priority at the time.  However, I did find that when they did certain things to me to help the illness (Vit B12 shots, or growth hormone shots), they may or may not have worked on the illness but they would bring back my libido and then it would disappear again when they stopped the injections.  Now that I am back on my feet and I am getting my life back, it’s nice having a libido (even if I dont have anyone to share it with).  Not having a libido is not any fun, and those that are struggling GOOD FOR YOU for not just accepting and looking outside the box for some solutions.  If i hadnt looked out side the box for my assorted illnesses I would still be in a wheell chair.  I am not saying that libido is as important is being able to walk, but if there is a problem in life… go after it, try and solve it.. i know i got too preachy sorry

Yes, that’s all I was referring to.   There are such serious health risks to all these estrogen based hormone replacement products.  I remember way back when we were told that HRT was perfectly safe.  Then breast cancer rates soared, strokes occurred…  Now women are once again being told that these creams and vaginal pill inserts are “perfectly safe.”   Why should we believe the drug companies yet again?   And for what?   Just to have a penis in our vaginas?   Not at 60.  No thanks.   I’m blessed with good health so I’ll happily take care of my needs myself.   And any man who would rather see the woman he professes to love put her health and life at risk when God gave him two perfectly good hands is not worth having around in my humble opinion.   Whoever invented Viagra should be shot.

You know, you have a really good point! AND I applaud your gutsy approach . . . dare I say “Ballsey” approach. LOVE IT! On the other hand I can sympathize with those that have lost the desire  . . . it is a lot more fun to feel aroused at times! With or without a man it just makes you feel more alive! Not that it sounds like you have that problem! I TOTALLY agree with your feelings about Big Pharma, they have sold us down the river too many times in too many ways and let’s face it they are in it for the money – period! They are not humanitarians . . . they are Big Business – REALLY BIg Business.

I agree that no women should but herself at risk.  I don’t think any of the above women are looking to do that including myself.  It doesn’t sound like any of the women and their partners want that either.  I agree that the Big Pharma is out to make a buck and don’t care about the side effects or deaths that come from it. At the same time, women deserve to desire sex, enjoy sex, feel pleasure with or without a man or woman.  If I didn’t have my husband I would still want and desire intimacy.  It’s so much fun to have hot wild passionate sex.  Yes, I can rock my world alone no problem.  But when I see my husband all excited and looking at me like I rock his world…ladies I work it like no other!!  Good luck T

Thank you, Trish.  The latest experiment on women by big Pharma seems to be a pill to enhance our libido.  So far it has not been approved, but it probably will.  The drug companies will make obscene profits and, if history is any lesson, women will literally “die for sex.”   At some point we need to stop screwing around with nature.

Why, Why, Why do women keep putting themselves at risk? It is way too high a price to pay and for what? To live up to a fantasy? Why don’t we all just learn to love who we are and where we are in each stage of our lives? We are still beautiful and “Vibrant”, alive, full of joy and wisdom. Women need to see their own beauty instead and own it instead of a false ideal. The Hollywood and the media has sucked us in and Big Pharma is selling us anything and everything they can. It is our own fault for not saying NO and for not listening to our bodies and for allowinfg ourselves to become victums of greedy corporations. I know there is a lot of pressure and I know it isn’t easy but we must stop the insanity! Don’t get me wrong I do not mean that we should all become gray haired, shrivled old ladies in a rocking chair . . . no way! We need to feel the power that lies within us and celebrate our lives and our unique individual selves.

I knew that going in but I took the risk because I was in sever pain and I couldn’t walk more then a few minutes without suffering.  I’m grateful but I’m still in physical therapy.  It took me five different doctors, many arguments with specialists, my tears, sad moments to find the right help.  I have my days of sadness because of my spine, but I’m walking, alive, my health is strong, I have a wonderful husband, healthy adult children…so now I just have to get some vaginal sensation back. That’s been so frustrating.  I still desire sex, I love my hubby, I have orgasms….but during intercourse I’ve lost sensation.  I’m searching …ciao and good luck.

      Hi injaynesworld

My issues isn’t about risking my life it’s about enjoying sex with my husband who is a wonderful man and wonderful lover.  This thread has nothing to do really with the man it’s about me and other women feeling changes as we age and wanting to continue to explore our sexuality and feel damn good while doing.  Hands, toys, and creams aren’t what I’m looking for.  I have that and more.  My concern and issues is lack of sensation inside me. It’s complex and I’m working on it.   It’s very upsetting.  I’m looking for women who have the same issue that can share with me their successes.  As above.  You are blessed to be perfectly healthy at 60.  You are happy with your hands and self…good for you.  But there are many of us on this thread that are seriously looking for results and help nothing to do with taking on health risks or masterbation.  I love the fact my husband has a penis, it works and he knows what to do with it.  I want more from life and I’m going to find it one way or the other…thanks
