Slow reading
| 1. Metamorphoses, by Ovid | 3. The Book of Psalms |
The most important one of these ended up being the Bible, especially the Book of Psalms. This wasn’t expected. I have a very religious aunt and I have preachers and ministers in my extended family, but it hasn’t been a central part of my life. I found in it what many people have found in it: solace and intrigue and comfort and searching. That was all surprising but I was very happy about it too. It opens up a door. You can wander around in that garden for a long time.
Total escapism
| 4. Bleak House I reread a lot of Dickens, great epic novels that help you leave your world entirely. I loved Bleak House. I loved the family dynamic, the descriptions of the house, how it was symbolic of what was happening in the life. I loved the whole encompassing world. |

| 5. He Knew He Was Right I reread a lot of Trollope too, and really enjoyed a little-known novel of his called He Knew He Was Right. It’s a wonderful one to dive into — probably his most psychological work — about a husband wife who have a fight and can’t let go of it. A wonderful story of an obsession, wonderful and crazy and tragic. |

| 6. My Man Jeeves I also started reading tons of P.G. Wodehouse. The Jeeves books make me laugh out loud. |
