My favorite gardening blogs

Blogs are an increasingly important way for gardeners to do what they’ve always done: share their wisdom and experience and images. Gardener/author/blogger Val Easton shares a few of her favorite blogs.

Val's own gardening blog is called Plant Talk. Her latest book is The New Low-Maintenance Garden: How to Have a Beautiful, Productive Garden and the Time to Enjoy It.

  1. Fresh Dirt
A variety of Sunset authors write this blog, and you get a whole lot of different opinions.

  2. Garden Rant
Four gardeners from different parts of the country "blog with attitude" here. They write short entries with lots of visuals.

  3. Garden Design Online
This blog is more for the east coast; nevertheless, I read it to learn about what’s going on all over the country.

  4. A Way to Garden
Margaret Roach's blog is such a good example of using visuals well. It’s just a luscious looking blog. It really influenced the design of my own. Gardening is a visual medium, and I love how Margaret manages to get that online. You are kind of transported to her garden. And she keeps her entries brief.

Val, I love your own blog the most. I've been reading your work in the Seattle Times for a l-o-n-g time. Your photos are always so beautiful, too. By the way, did you ever find out what that little maple was that you were trying to identify last fall?
