Top 3 packing secrets for frequent travelers

My work with FEMA requires me to usually be on the site of the disaster within 24-36 hours after being deployed. I can’t spend time figuring out what I’m going to take or if I need to buy something. So, I keep “Go Kits” in plastic zip-lock bags at the ready. When I return home, I restock them and store them away for my next assignment or journey. “Go Kits” make packing easier and I’m less likely to forget the things I really need.

I find that I need three different Go Kits: one for medical supplies, one for toiletries, and one for documents. Here are my packing lists for each type of kit.

    Medical Go Kit
  1. 1 month of prescription drugs, clearly marked
  2. Small supply of common OCT drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, cold pills, antacid, and lomotil or other anti-diarrhea medication
  3. Band-aids and anti-bacterial cream
  4. Anti-bacterial handwash
    Toiletry Go Kit
  1. Toothbrush/toothpaste/floss
  2. Baby wipes. I use these to wash my face and hands (For two to three weeks I can do without my typical skincare routine.)
  3. Enough make-up to be presentable
  4. Hand and body cream
  5. Small shampoo/conditioner combo
  6. Extra contact lenses, eye glasses, cleaning fluid
    Document Go Kit
  1. Photocopy of Driver’s License and Passport (I store my passport in my travel purse.)
  2. Emergency contact information
  3. Post card labels
  4. Small notebook
