I never needed advice; I had to figure it out for myself. I still don’t read advice stuff…..I managed to escape a childhood of abuse and poverty by joining the army (I was determined to do something with my life, other than take up oxygen), got a divorce after 31 years of abuse; stood up to spiritual abuse…voted out of a church memebership, etc., etc….

I won a scholarship, because of what I have endured and overcome in my life. I am a freshman (woman!) at age 63. I was born standin up and talkin’ back; good thing because I had to do it all by myself. I will continue to make a difference in the world. I feel driven to do that.

True when you were in high school, you would take a date with your boyfriend over movies with your girlfriends, but when he was a no show you girlfriends welcomed you with open arms and ice cream!

There are women like pebcle and me who struggled through early life with upside down lives. We didn’t learn to form friendships due to our circumstances. In my case, my mother was alcholic and I was forced to grow up very quickly. My father was physically abusive. We moved frequently. I later married a man, a combination of mother/father, who moved frequently so I was unable to form enduring relationships with anyone. Mostly I didn’t and don’t know how. Now I’m 60 and whereas I’ve come to grips with my past and forgiven my mother and father, I still don’t know how to form lasting relationships. What are your suggestions for people on the extreme end? We don’t have support systems and have not been properly educated how to do this?

What about women like me, who didn’t have a supportive family or school system? Yes, I focus on staying connected w/my friends, as tough as that is w/my employment (finances) in a train wreck like so many senior women. Oh, & your columns won’t print properly; right margin drops off the page (& on the net). Your webmaster needs to fix this (I take LOTS of computer courses).
