5 tips to keep your energy up

If you're finding yourself more ready for a nap than a productive afternoon, use these five tips to perk you up.
  1. There is no "C" in the word energy

Feeling low in energy while sitting at your computer? What's your posture like? Slouching or curling the spine into a C shape limits the flow of breath and energy in your body. Sit up straight, take in a deep breath and exhale with all your might--instant energy.

  2. Green Tea Extract in a Cold Glass of Water

For focused concentration vs a caffeine buzz which doesn't last, I turn to Green Tea. In hot weather I'm not likely to drink hot tea so this summer I started drinking ice cold water with a dropper full of green tea extract and a squeeze of lime. It's refreshing and perks me up when I need it. Bonus is, 3 cups of green tea per day--about the equivalent of one dropper full--increases metabolism by 15%- 20%.

  3. The M in Energy

Movement is key to keeping your energy levels up. We are designed to move throughout the day and our current culture makes that a thing of the past. If you are feeling tired and need to get that project done, put on some pumping music--it can be classical or country--as long as it gets your body moving. Take a mini move it break every 90 minutes. You'll be amazed at how rejuvenating it feels--and you'll burn a few more calories!

  4. Another M word--Meditation

I recently read that 3 minutes of meditation can refresh a tired brain and energize your body. Work in a cube farm? Head to the bathroom or stairwell and get quiet, close your eyes, breath in and out thoughtfully, imagine some place lovely and voila, you will feel restored and ready to go back to work.

  5. The most important ingredient for energy? Food

No food can be eaten without an energetic consequence--end of story, full stop, no way around it. Food is either energizing and serving us or it's depleting our reserves. One girl's energizer is another one's energy thief. You must know your own body. That said lean protein, healthy fats--which includes the saturated fat found in meat protein, eggs, dairy--and lots of fresh veggies will serve most everyone for optimal energy. Notice I didn't mention grains here? I'm moving into the camp that says the less grain in the diet the better, even whole grains. I'm not saying don't eat them, just eat them moderately and use more beans and legumes than rice and potatoes.

I'd like to try the green tea extract.  Where do you find that?  I could use it because my metabolism is almost zilch.  Working on the movement part, but have to have my knee replaced (in January) first. Till then I am doing sitting exercises.

I felt like you wrote this for me. LOL.  I don't always eat when I should, I slouch, and the longer I sit the more movement hurts.  I have r. arthritis and the best way to pain relief is to get up and move around.  Just thought I would share that last item for anyone else with arthritis.  I hate tea, just coffee here please, stong and cafinated but I do meditate frequently during the day.  I never knew meditation could increase energy.  I guess I was doing it by instinct - the meditation part, that is.
