"There has to be something better"
I started as a makeup artist in the 80s in New York, then left New York to work on films in Los Angeles, then eventually moved to Texas, where I worked with Mary Kay personally. In fact, I was her makeup artist for 18 years. I worked on older women all the time and often wished that I had other, better products that I could use on them.
Then, in 1998, I developed skin cancer, and realized I needed sun protection for my face. I had never really liked foundation and powder anyway, the way they felt on my face. Plus, as women age, these products really do settle in. So I thought, "There has to be something better"--and I took myself out into the market, into the cosmetics industry, and discovered these things called minerals which nobody knew about at the time.
Simple, healthy makeup for real women and real life
Mineral is very much a buzz word in makeup now--every single ad that takes about makeup has the word mineral in it. But I was on the forefront as a pioneer with mineral foundation. What I did was try to develop a line for real women. At that time I was a single mom and a working mom, and I knew that there were lots of other women like me who wanted to put their best face forward in as little time as possible, but do things that were healthy for their skin.
That was the impetus behind my first product, COLORFLO mineral foundation. I wanted to create something that would make beauty simple for women. Everything is packaged in a way that's portable and easy. It's sort of out-of-the-box; not what women are used to, but once you understand it, it makes makeup so simple and so easy and so portable. As I've developed my line, adding more products over time, I continue to do things in a very simple way that makes it easy for women to make choices about what works for them and to be able to take those things with them.
Makeup that stays, even during a hot flash
My line is practical and simple but also fun--so it works for any woman who appreciates these things. You can buy it for your daughter because of the sun protection and the simplicity of it. But because it contains no powder, my line works particularly well on older women. One of the best things about my products is that it's great for menopausal women because it stays on in a hot flash!
