Sex, Lies, and Menopause Hot Conversation

I’ve been told by my wonderful 64 year old hairdresser (of 35 years) that is amazed and delighted that she got her groove back.  Try reading Sex, Lies and Menopause about how to get tested and about estrogen and synthetics and natural treatments.  She says she was all dried up, no libido, etc.  She says that everyone she’s told about the book and who has gotten tested and treated naturally is RAVING about their sex life.  She definitely is saying she is SOOO much happier feeling alive again.  More than topical, local results.  Natural remedies, not synthetics. But ones that work and are tailored for YOU! Good luck!

I’ve been on natural hormones for 3 years now.  I don’t know if every woman has had the same “wonderful” results that I’ve had but I can tell you that just when I thought my life was over, bing!, suddenly I was thrown back into what felt like puberty again. At 55 I feel like I did at 35, or younger….these new natural hormone treatments are definitely the fountain of youth for women, and a God-send to the men in their lives.

I to felt that same way.  I decided to investigate the HRT program, and found the best books to read on HRT are written by Suzanne Sommers. They are  written in laymans terms. Her first book is “The Sexy Years”, and her second book that I have read is called”Ageless”. Don’t forget that along with the HRT program you will need a good exercise and diet program. They go hand in hand.

Since I have started HRT all those little 7 dwarfs of menopause have gone, feeling great!

What are the risks (cancer) with these “natural” hormones?

The risk(cancer), are associated with the synethic HRT ..the bio-identical HRT has  no risk ..I have found as a matter of fact in some cases ( tru reading) it has shown to prevent some cancers.

My doctor started me on natural hormones 4 months ago and I’ve never felt better in my entire life. I love it! My sex drive is better than it has ever been and needless to say, my husband is thrilled. She also started me on liquid vitamins and minerals and I have more energy than I had in my teens and 20′s. By the way, I’m 56 and feel like I’m 26. :)

Do you mind sharing the specific hormone and vitamin names? I would very much appreciate it.

      Thank you.

do these natural hormones make periods continue for months or years longer then they normally would?? or start them back up again once you think you are finished with that bit of wonderfulness?? :-)   I don’t want a period for much longer??

        Otherwise, sounds great!

Not at all. I’m taking estrogen, testosterone, and progesterone – all of them are natural. I think all three of these come in various methods, i. e. pill, cream, patch or pellet, but I’m not sure. I get the estrogen and progesterone in pellet form, which is wonderful. The pellets are inserted just beneath the skin at the top of my butt. The pellets last about 3 months. The progesterone I take by pill – 1 at bedtime. The drawback to the natural hormones is that most doctors will not prescribe them and insurance companies will not pay for them. My doctor is a M.D. – she just happens to believe in the natural remedies.

The vitamins I take are: Natural Vitality Organic Life Vitamins, liquid Vitamin B12 and liquid vitamin B Complex. All of these can be purchased at http://www.swansonvitamins.com. I’ve found them cheaper there than anywhere. I also take amino acids, and fish oil. The liquid Life Vitamins are not that tasty, so I mix up a capful in 6 oz. of OJ every morning. The vitamin B’s are not bad – just take a dropperful under your toungue, hold it for 30 seconds and swallow. The amino acids are pills – no problem.

If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

Just make sure that everyone is tested so a bio-identical hormone prescription can be tailored for you.  I would not suggest just taking things off the shelf.  Many women are estrogen dominant and will only need vaginal estrogen during menopause for dryness whereas most of us almost always need progesterone.  Testosterone, cortisol and DHEA also should be evaluated.  Hope this is helpful.

My doctor did so many tests before starting me on anything – I lost count. This is one reason I appreciate her so much – she tests for everything before prescribing anything.

My only disappointment thus far is the progesterone is not helping me sleep! So she is going to have to find something I can take in addition to the progesterone.

360Menopause, you sound like you are a professional in this area.  I have a question.  I still have a sex drive, of course not like the one I had in my 40′s.  I’m fine with my current sex drive, I don’t want a sex drive like I had when I was younger.  My poor husband won’t know what to do with me!!  We are perfectly matched in our desire for one another.  My challenge is during intercourse.  I have organsims with clitorial stimulation in seconds but I’m not enjoying intercourse like I used to because of lack of sensation in my vagina.  I’ve tried those creams/jells that are suppose to highen ..but it doesn’t work for me.  I’m excited, I’m not dry….it’s so frustrating.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

Hi Tas.  I got two reponses back from doctors as this is not my expertise area.

        Dr. Sarah Lobisco -

I would recommend she speak to someone about it in a consultation, as it could be a hormonal/emotional/past trauma issue……

        Dr. Carrie Daenell -

Actually, I would recommend she try Hot Plants by Enzymatic Therapy at double the dose for three to four months and see if that will help.

As I stated, I really can comment.  Hope this is at least a little helpful.
