Scuba Dive Anyone?

We adore scuba diving…where the cell phone can’t come and that’s the idea…plus we’re dazzled by the immediate experience of the vast oceans waters filled with incredible life in every shape and size imaginable…not to mention we’re always delightfully surprised by marine life speeding by or hiding in obscure and remote crevices makes the hide and seek of scuba diving all the more delightful…Respect for the beauty of all marine life comes to us in full force.  My husband has been scuba diving for over thirty years…when we met I would never have considered it a possibility.  From the moment I found myself weightless in the sea (I was certified in St. John USVI) I was transformed.  I was nearing 50 and now I can’t imagine what I was doing all those years when the only relaxation I had on a tropical island was to slather up and hide under a palm leaf or burn my skin…I recommend the joys of scuba diving for too many reasons…find out for yourself…you can take a resort course…no obligation.  I on the other hand jumped right in and passed my exams, grabbed my tank, mask, and fins, and kissed my then “beau” and off we went!!

I fully understand what you mean. I love being “one with the fish.” I was certified back in 2005 in Key West where I was living at the time. My husband and I set sail for the Carribean in 2006 and I enjoyed snorkeling (he doesn’t dive and most of the cruiser friends we met didn’t either) in the Bahamas and Puerto Rico. Now that we’re back in the states, I miss it. So, for Christmas this year my two wonderful children got me a Disney diving experience at the Living Seas in EPCOT. It’s not the same as being out there, but it’s going to be a great experience all the same.

      Dear Joylouise,

Don’t give up your desire to being “one with the fish”.  There are several dive excursions that offer “dive buddy” matches and group diving trips all over the world.  Select one that suits your style and level of diving.  They have women dive trips too!  I recommend subscribing to Dive magazine and Sport Diver…you’ll be enchanted, learn some diving tips, and read about the various PADI trips offered.  So glad your children are so kind and thoughtful…perhaps they would like to become certified and share the experience of scuba with you!  Who knows, maybe your husband will be convinced too!  All the best, Susan

Check out http://www.breathebonaire.com   In real time, watch marine life on one of our favorite reefs…”Something Special”  click on the lower left side to time sequence of 2 seconds to see the action!  Divers and fish alike are here!  Have fun!  I use this during the day as a way to slow down, relax, and dream of our next dive adventure!
