  • Flaxseed and flaxseed oil have been put forth as potential hot flash cures for years, but scientific data doesn’t support the claim. Flaxseed does contain natural lignans, which can help to balance female hormones.
  • Red clover is a popular woman’s herb because it contains natural plant estrogens. Many women take red clover supplements to help balance out the estrogen they’re losing through menopause, but the herb can be dangerous for those who have cancer or are at risk for cancer.
  • Wild yams are also popular in hormone therapy because they contain natural compounds that are similar to progesterone and estrogen. However, science can’t prove these plant hormones are capable of becoming active in human beings.
  • Ginseng helps to address a common menopause symptom: mood. Ginseng boosts mood, helping to counter-act the depression and anxiety many women feel during menopause. Mood improvement may help stop hot flashes, which can be triggered by stress and other strong emotions. St. John’s Wort is also known for helping to balance mood, and the herb is a good natural treatment for menopausal depression.
  • Soy has been proven to be somewhat effective to stop hot flashes, but it may not work for all menopausal women. Eat foods that are naturally rich in soy, such as nuts and tofu, to take advantage of the natural estrogen-like compounds found in it.

Menopause vitamins

Staying healthy is a good way to treat hot flashes and other menopause symptoms. Take vitamins and vitamin supplements to keep your body well-balanced and well-prepared for the changes that age can bring.

  • Calcium may not help stop hot flashes, but it is something your body’s got to have. Menopausal women begin losing calcium, so you’ve got to start taking supplements to keep your bones and body strong.
  • Magnesium helps menopausal women absorb calcium, which your body never stops needing. Always take a little magnesium when you’re taking calcium (about half as much). Your magnesium levels drop when estrogen does, so bringing balance back to your body can help to stop hot flashes and hormonal night sweats. Find magnesium naturally in black walnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds, leafy vegetables and black strap molasses.

I don’t know if this thread is still going, but I stumbled upon it while researching “self doubt and menopause” – both of which I am dealing with. I feel like overnight I am filled with self doubt, second guessing every parenting decision I make – feeling like I’m an insecure basket of nerves! My feelings are suddenly hurt so easily and I’m making myself crazy. I am 50, have always been pretty confident and happy and suddenly I’m a different person. Does  this end? Will I ever feel normal again?
