How far do you have to go to run away?

As a caregiver, I found myself in desperate need for someone to care for me. I had to run away from home. Not able to run very far I had to find a way to take care of myself and still be close. So I am hiding for a day.
A glass of wine and a good meal, reading a book and watching a full nine innings of baseball are gratefully appreciated. But there’s one last thing I must do to make this the perfect mini vacation. I thank myself for taking care of me. It isn’t easy and often accompanied by guilt.
When was the last time you ran away? Where did you go? What did you do to thank yourself for the effort?

Good for you. A good movie or even a mediocre movie!

Once or twice a month I go to the Chicago area where I grew up. I’m only 90 miles away. I reconnect with old friends and it rejuvenates me. Other than that, I go to my local Panera Bread and get a little booth in the corner and read, write, surf the net. Also getting together with my gal pals is a lifeline for me.

A long walk…… esp. in the morning before the sun comes up and I can look up at the stars, identify the constellations and lose myself in infinity.

Great comments, ladies. I never realized how important it was to have a time out. We think we are indestructible or at least we should be. But even the strongest must find ways to survive. Finding little ways to escape, indulging ourselves even with something as simple as a long walk, makes our blessings come clearly into view. Whenever I fix myself a nice dinner, I always thank myself for the effort, especially since I know how tired I am. Silly? But it does feel nice that someone cares enough to take care of me.

I run away in my mind every day.   It is that dancer, singer, writer, poetess in my that allows myself escape to magical places…even tho I work in the Math department at a University (ick!)

My 97 year old teacher coined the term, “Fairy-child” for me in the 3rd grade.  I still am :)
