Hi Sue,
One of the main reasons our waistline grows as we age is because of increased hormones. The easiest way to start reducing your waistline is to get the hormone “Cortisol” under control. It’s actually easy and fun to do this. The first thing you want to do to decrease cortisol is to increase sleep. If you have trouble sleeping, try to incorporate a “power down hour” which simply means: prepare for sleep one hour before a good bedtime for you. Turn off all electronics, drink a warm relaxing drink like chamomile tea, warm bath or shower, breathing exercises, etc. A suggested power down hour is 9:30pm so that you can be asleep by 10:30pm.
The next easy and fun way to decrease Cortisol is through “self-care”. Every week find ways to increase your self care in whatever that means to you. Examples: exfoliating, exercise, yoga, manicure, massage, waxing, detoxing, body lotion, etc. it can be simple or it can be extravagant — whatever works for your lifestyle — just add in self-care every week to your schedule.
Challenge yourself to do these two things for 21days and you will magically see a difference in your waistline. Good luck.
Warmly,
Jane
Hi Sue,
I just joined SparkPeople.com — it is a free site to track your food and exercise, weight and measurments. It will help you determine how much energy you need to eat and how much you need to expend so safely lose weight and trim your body, including your waist!
I have never had a tiny waist, but I hate the texture of it now. So, I move more and eat less. Drink lots of water. Food does not have to be boring to be good for you. If you don’t like to cook, go the route of Lean Cuisine, etc.
Good luck!
Sue, Weight Watchers come to mind. They are affordable and reliable. The rest is up to us. If you dont have health issues, then you are able to move, walk, do breathing exercises anything to break the fat away. With much care.
Love the title – really did Laugh Out Loud!
Have the same problem. My waist was there one day and gone the next.
Haha! Oh Sue, I know whatcha mean!! Bloodwork showed me through menopause and the next day I woke up with a little tire around my middle. Those darn hormones! Well I went on a crusade this past year to figure out how the heck to get this pudge off. Healthy eating – check, exercising – check. Went to a functional endocrinologist, talked to family doc who said there wasn’t really much he could do to help. Gyn suggested bio-identical hormones. I am still having my thyroid examined for possible problems there and eventually may go to bio-identicals. They are, apparently, the best way to make a difference with this type of body issue. I have a friend who is 60 and she is a personal trainer. When her mid-section pudged out and she gained weight, she did the bio-identical hormones and is much improved. I don’t think everyone can take them, but it might be worth a trip to a doc in your area who does the bio-identical pellets and get a consultation. Boy, we girls never get a break, do we?! I wish you health, happiness and an improved waistline in the near future!
Recruit a walking partner who you want to spend time with and commit to a DAILY set time and distance. It will be the best part of your day!! I asked my neighbor years ago, and we did at least 2 miles together at 5:15 am for about three years. I lost weight and got my exercise in before my day got busy. We live in Minnesota and committed to EVERY day not matter what the weather–snow, ice or rain!!
Isn’t that what spanx-type wear is for? Give it up, the men generally speaking, just let it bulge — is this yet another double standard? I get tired just sort of keeping up with what I should/should not do .. I mean .. for … sake I am 66 isn’t it time to worry about world hunger or world peace rather than a bulge in my middle. really !!??
I agree, to an extent; men are given a much larger pass on body condition. But for me, I am doing what I am doing for HEALTH.
A. I know that larger waistlines in women increase the risk of heart attack many-fold.
B. My mother and father both had heart problems (mother died from a heart attack at 71, father had triple by-pass in his late 60′s), so I keep working on it.
C. My goal is feeling HEALTHY and being COMFORTABLE in my body, knowing I am doing the best I can to hang in there so I CAN do the things that matter.
D. My household is feminist: my husband loves me and is still attracted to me no matter my weight, belly size or other measurements. My daughters know that when I diet, it is because I went overboard (another societal problem, right?) and need to do better so I can be around for them, and for their families.
E. I can concurrently work on my health and world whatever. We women, if we know anything, know how to multi-task!
Have a great Friday!
I’m in agreement about doing the best we can to be healthy. That’s the most important thing.
