I think if I can even find it, I’m going to get it. So far, it seems to be unavailable for the most part.
I am a public health nurse–we after recieving tons of ”good” education on the subject–not google information that can often come from unreliable sources–Idefinatelywill get vaccinated. I just vaccinated my 1 year old granddaughter. It’s our best defense against this thing!
This vacine has not had any testing!! The flu shot has been tested. but not the one for H1N1!!
]””””””I hear say this all the time but.. did you know they change the flu shot every year because strains of flu circulating change from year to year (we do not hear about any testing when they add a new strain)–the only reason H1N1 is not in the seasonal vaccine this year is that the seasonal one was already in production . It was made the same way and actually had more testing done than the season flu shot does each year. They have been giving H1N1 for months and so far things look good. Too bad we didn’t get it about six months ago
Heard today on CNN that if you were born before 1950 you are not in danger of contracting the H1N1 flu…seems to hit 24 and younger
I work in the health field and will definitely get the vaccine when it becomes available. We’ve had some deaths here in the Cincinnati area of this flu in the ‘teen’ group….truly scary! The virus seems to invade the actual tissues of the lungs and set up abscesses which is different from a typical pneumonia…..very virulent and kills quickly. Yes, older people seem to have more resistance to H1N1 virus, but more older people have other health issues that make them more susceptible to complications if they DO get the virus. My pregnant daughter is struggling with this decision and doesn’t know whether to vaccinate her two year old daughter, either. The vaccine HAS been tested, despite what you read on the internet. Pediatric groups here have been testing it for awhile on kids to see if one or several doses of vaccine are necessary to give immunity. There haven’t been any problems reported in the news. I am just afraid that availability is going to be an huge issue as this flu sweeps through the country. They can’t get it manufactured fast enough and have even shorted the supply of “regular” flu vaccine, trying to get the H1N1 vaccine to the public. It won’t be available here to the general public until November…maybe. Then it takes a full two weeks after vaccination to reach full immunity. Good luck and good health to all of you. Take care of yourselves. Do what your DOCTOR recommends, NOT the internet!!!
I appreciate yu comment “do what your doctor recommends, NOT the internet. In regards to vaccine in general it amazes me how people choose to believe an actress over a group of scientist medical doctors, and epidemiologist when seeking information. Maybe this disease is an eye opener for some. Mothers in the 1950′s saw amny of these diseases first hand and we waiting in lines to vaccinate their children.Thank goodness they did–for instance take a look at polio measles, and diptheria rates over the years. Next to clean drinking water, vaccines are arguably the most important advance in public health in the last 300 years
Thank you for your support and for your comments. I’ve been arguing these very points with my adult children who aren’t sure about getting the vaccine. My daughter is pregnant and has a two year old child. Her husband has been reading all kinds of nonsense on the internet and is against it, even though her OB/GYN Dr. strongly recommends it. Guess he wants to risk losing his unborn son and having to raise his two year old alone! Soon I’ll be posting the question “What do you do to cover your head after you’ve torn your hair out?!!” Of course, the whole issue is a moot point right now as there is no vaccine available here yet.
