diovan bp med made me gain 25 lbs

I took diovan for 1 year and gained 25 lbs thought it was menopause ,im 51 but started having other problems ,and read up on diovan and had so many side effects I changed meds .I also have fibromyalgia and find it hard to work out like i used to.any suggestions .Ive tried walking,swimming,low calorie diet ,things that I can do without to much discomfort but im getting nowhere.

    Apparently Diovan can cause joint pain, maybe the fibromyalgia will let up now you’re off the drug.  Are you on other meds too?  The statin drugs can cause muscle and joint pain too.  God only knows what others.

    I don’t know that much about exercise so I can’t help you there, especially if swimming is painful.  Tai Chi?  Low cal should help even if you can’t exercise.

      Hi stella,thamks for your response,I am on captopril now,but im still trying to the dosing right so I dont know if it will take time for the pain to subside ,its been a week now so time will tell,I dont know if the weight i gained is all fat because my diet didnt change ,I do have some edema wich im taking water pill for.the swimming isnt that bad its bearable so I push through it but soon tha wont be an option.low cal diet doesnt do a thing without exercise for me.even when I first started to gain thought it was perimenopause and I rode the stationary bike 1 hour every day and cut my calories for 2 months and didnt loose an ounce so I gave up.I also developed a rash on my thighs too in the last 6 month maybe that from diovan too doc says it kina like phsorisis an auto immune disorder,so im a mess and feel horrible all the time,I have to get back to work but im so miserable I cant imagine working in a nursing home feeling like this,im a cna/gna

    I don’t know about the BP med, as I don’t have a problem with BP.  But, I certainly do know about fibromyalgia.  Fibro is about the muscles, and connective tissues.  It has nothing to do with joint pain.  Although, I can empathize with not wanting to workout…  The BEST advice I ever received was from my Rhuematologist.  He said, ” I want you to workout 30 minutes a day, breaking a SWEAT.  A really hard workout!”  It was awful for about 2 weeks, but each day my pain level went down.

    The exercise really does help. so whatever you can do, I suggest that you do it.  Swim, if you can do that….I do the treadmill and elliptical, when I workout.  Lately, I have been lazy…..

    I also just recently lost 35 pounds, by giving up all sugar, and basically living on fruit, veggies, beans, legumes, some cheese, a little tuna.  I stopped all flour, sugar, potatoes, white rice, white bread.  It may work for you too…..You have nothing to lose, except the weight if it works….

      Im so tired and hurt all the time and the brain fog  i just feel like crawling into bed and sleeping all day.between menopause and fibro im total washed out.all the things I used to love and care about are no longer of interest.im in a fog all day the only joy i have these days are my 2 golden retrievers riley and emma.they keep me going.my husband doesnt understand he thinks oh just push your self every body has aches and pains and get up and goes to work and deals with it.no understaning of what i feel .how could he.I need to work but just cant physicaly do my job any more .im a cna/gna and worked in a nursing home.I must do something but what?
