Laser treatments might bring knee pain relief to millions

More and more seniors are turning to surgery to get knee pain relief, but a new laser treatment could help them avoid the knife for a few more years. Using low-level light therapy, researchers have conducted clinical trials that show a very promising future for laser-treated knees.

Relief from knee pain is something that many millions seek out every single year. Knee replacement surgery procedures are becoming more sophisticated, but no one really wants to go under the knife. What if you don’t have to?

Theralase Technologies recently had their LLLT treatment, low-level light therapy, put to the test in clinical trials. The study was conducted independently and meets the gold standard for being randomized, blinded and controlled.

Using a pain-scale management rating system, patients evaluated how much knee pain they experienced during the course of the study. The study monitored patients during and after the laser treatment. According to the results, laser-treated knees were experiencing less pain even 30 days after the treatment was over. The full results of the study have been published in Photonics & Lasers in Medicine, a clinical journal.

The laser treatment is a non-invasive therapy that literally uses light technology in order to provide knee pain relief. It may sound a little strange, but the procedure is backed up by science. According to this one clinical trial at least, it does seem to work to provide knee pain relief in sufferers.

Surgery alternatives

Many people who suffer with chronic knee pain are looking for solutions to maintain healthy, active lifestyles without feeling agony. Knee replacement surgery, recovery and re-treatment is an ongoing process that requires a lifetime commitment. Many people want to delay full knee replacement for as long as possible, and the laser treatment could prove to be a viable alternative.

Other therapeutic treatments, more widely studied, are available. Simple over-the-counter medicines can help to reduce inflammation and reduce painful sensations in the knee, but for long-lasting relief you’ll want to turn to physical therapy. Through strength-training, flexibility exercises and other physical therapy practices, it’s possible to learn different ways to use the knee and repair muscles to feel less pain.

There are lots of alternatives to surgery out there, and they don’t all involve using high-tech lasers. Consult with your physician to learn more about the treatment options available to you, and don’t rush into knee replacement surgery without understanding all of the implications involved.
