Natural Oils as Thinning Hair Remedies

Before there were expensive salons, there were folk remedies about how to deal with thinning hair. Women used rosemary oil, olive oil and even more exotic oils like pomegranate seed oil to treat hair problems and keep hair healthy.

Rosemary ranks high among the prescribed folk remedies for thinning hair. Women can use it as a preventative measure, since it’s reputed to stimulate hair follicles.  It contains calcium, vitamin B and iron, and so can help cleanse the scalp and condition hair that’s frizzy, brittle or has dandruff. This makes it a good choice for an aromatic hair treatment since thin hair tends to become dirtier quicker than other types of hair.

A bonus use: Rosemary may be how to stop grey hair, at least if folk lore is to be believed.

Avocado oil contains amino acids and proteins that are said to help remedy dandruff and combat female hair thinning.

Sweet almond oil is another natural oil believed to promote hair growth. The ancient Egyptians mixed equal parts almond oil with castor oil, which adds anti-inflammatory properties. Sweet almond oil is also the key ingredient in a number of thinning hair remedies, including folk recipes that mix the protein-rich oil with egg yolk, lavender oil and even jojoba oil. If nothing else, sweet almond oil is a great natural conditioner and can be used to add shine to fine hair styles.

Pomegranate oil contains punicic acid, which can add shine to dry, dull hair. It also reportedly can protect your hair from chemicals and other environmental impurities, which makes it a recommended oil for protecting already fine hair.

You may already have a fantastic natural oil option for treating female thinning hair already in your kitchen. Olive oil is both age-old remedies for female thinning hair.

To use any natural oil, simply heat it to a warm temperature by placing the oil in warm water or heating it in the microwave – 20 seconds should do it. You can add a few drops of essential oil for added medicinal benefits or aroma therapy, if you like. Then massage the oil into your scalp after a shampoo. Leave it on for 15-30 minutes or overnight before rinsing.
