Ultimate Girlfriends Getaway: New York City
As Sinatra said, "I want to wake up in a city that never sleeps." New York City is primo on our list of perfect girls trips no matter what time of year you decide to go. Stay in the Plaza Hotel right on 5th Avenue in Manhattan to be close to shopping, theaters, and five-star restaurants. You and your tribe will never run out of things to do. Visit the Russian Tea Room for lunch, and follow it up with cocktails at the Plaza. Catch a Broadway show, and shop shop shop until you can't feel your feet anymore. Then shop some more. New York City is thrumming with stuff to do. The biggest problem you and your girls will have is deciding what to do first.
I admittedly have a soft spot in my heart for Chi-town. It's truly "sweet home Chicago" for me. While Chicago boasts more sports teams and sports bars than most other cities on the planet, it is still a fabulous getaway for the girls. Whether it's a long weekend or an extended trip, Chicago hosts a huge variety of shopping and live entertainment. Stay at the Palmer House Hilton or the Ritz Carlton to be pampered and petted after walking around the Magnificent Mile. Catch a show at Second City, which has launched the careers of many SNL stars. Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Chevy Chase, Jim Belushi, Bill Murray--all of them were found honing their improv skills at the famous comedy club. After a day of hoofing it around downtown, the Spa at the Ritz-Carlton offers a Vinotherapy mani-pedi where you can indulge in getting your feet back in shape while a sommelier puts a glass of wine right into your hand.
Are you and your girlfriends suffering from the winter blahs? Then my advice is to head for the beach! Honolulu is the top of many lists for best vacation destinations--best for couples, best for families AND best for girlfriend getaways. Why? It is considered one of the safest-feeling cities in the US. Stay at the Moana Surfrider hotel and enjoy afternoon tea on the veranda. Get a poke bowl with fresh fish, swim with the dolphins, do yoga on the white sand beaches at sunrise, take a horseback ride through the Jurassic Park Valley. And at some point during the trip, spend some time with your besties by soaking up the sun with your feet in the sand and a cocktail in your hand. Seriously, it does not get any more relaxing than this. Just don't forget your sunscreen! We love Nia 24 Sun Damage Prevention that blocks out both UVA and UVB rays to protect your beautiful face.
The Big Easy is at the top of many guides as the ultimate destination for girlfriend getaways. Incredible shopping, dining, music, and nightlife are all lively and all best enjoyed with your best friends. Enjoy some beignets for breakfast while you take in the views around Jackson Square. Take in art galleries and nosh on macaroons in the French Quarter. Soak up the nightlife by hearing some classic jazz at the Spotted Cat--an experience you won't soon forget. And for the ultimate New Orleans experience for you and your friends, take a cooking class! Several places offer lessons for your group including the New Orleans School of Cooking or Langlois. Learn to make authentic gumbo that will knock your socks off. When you get home, you may need to update your kitchen with some must-have tools to cook like a pro, but it will be well worth it!
Napa has got to be one of the most popular girls trip destinations. Napa is fantastic for a girlfriends getaway because it offers terrific dining, fabulous shopping, plenty of art and culture for you and your tribe to soak up. Grab breakfast at the Oxbow Public Market. There's a little something for everybody to be had there. Next, start the winery tour. There are over 400 wineries to choose from, so take your pick! Reserve an exclusive tasting and tour at Tamber Bey. Here you can enjoy unique vintages while mingling with the horses on the ranch and exploring the grounds. When you're finished, head to the Goose & Gander for designer cocktails in the garden. Finish your trip with some hard-core pampering at the Indian Springs Resort. Book a facial, massage, or mud bath and get a day pass to the lounge in the mineral pool or the tranquil gardens. It's the absolute perfect way to end your no-boys-allowed vacation. Trust me--after spending so many days enjoying wine and food, the pampering will be much-needed!
As women, we seldom give ourselves permission just to relax and revive ourselves. We are constantly pushing ourselves to do it all. We try to be Wonder Woman and carry the weight of the world and keep stress off our families on our shoulders. Now more than ever it's critical to take a little "me" time. What's better than having me time? How about some me time with your best gal pals. A girlfriends only vacation is the best way you regroup and come back to reality refreshed and ready to conquer the world. What are your favorite girls trip destinations? We'd love to hear about it!
