Susan Posnick, the founder of Susan Posnick Cosmetics, became very conscious about sun protection after she developed skin cancer in 1998.

Many women don’t understand the difference between sunscreen and sunblock, but the difference can make a big difference when it comes to protecting your skin.
Sunscreen works chemically with the skin and takes about 30 minutes to start protecting you. When it’s working, it literally is a screen against the sun. I have sensitive skin and I react to just about every sunscreen, but most people can wear them. The trouble is, even if you have a 45 spf sunscreen, it’s not going to do much of anything for the first 30 minutes.
Physical sunblocks like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are different. Using physical sunblock is like taking a shade and putting it between you and the sun–it immediately gives you high to very high sun protection, depending on the amount of zinc and titanium in the particular product. My COLORFLO mineral foundation , for example, contains enough zinc and titanium to give you excellent sun protection–SPF 26–as soon as you put it on. The best part is that it’s so easy–you get your sun protection without having to think about it.
