I will be traveling as a host for seniors tour to Cannes France in Feb. I will be 60 and want to look stylish, not frumpy and not too trendy, Any suggestions from other members? BTW, I have decent legs and love leggings and skirts. So, what are women 50 yrs + wearing in France in 2013?

It’s been years since I’ve been to France, but when I was in Italy a few years ago, you can’t go wrong with a scarf tied (always stylishly!) around your neck.
Enjoy yourself — what a fun trip!
In France they dress. Show those legs with skirts and leggings!
Boots and more boots. In France, scarves and tasteful jewelry. You can’t go wrong with black either! Have a wonderful time!
I agree w/ the above comments and add this: Wear fitted clothing. Even those of us who are chunkier should NOT wear overly loose, frumpy clothing. A slightly fitted jacket is much better than a full one to show off your curves.
Boots, boots and leggings. Muted colors and definitely muted patterns. Go for classic patterns, instead.
I helped a slim (VN type) woman at Ann Taylor buy some things for her honeymoon to France. She was on somewhat of a budget, but she did have some spending flexibility.
We looked at fitted pants (good for boots as mentioned above) and some easy to wear knitted blend tops that flattered her waistline. We also looked at some dressier pieces for evenings out. She was particular about long sleeves and so forth. Once she relaxed about some of her requirements, she found some nice pieces that worked well together. She went in mid-September. The pieces she chose (grey, burgundy, cream, black, etc.), looked put together and gave her the dressy casual look that she was looking for, as well.
Thank you all, I have bought some things on your advice. So far, I picked up a sexy peplem dress in black with a shorter skirt, just at my knee, black shiny leggings that look like leather with a pink sparkly cowl neck top, black pin stripe pant suit from Nygard with a great short jacket that has a small ruffle on the colour and slim pants. 2 pairs of boots a great lambskin purse with a chain strap from Stella & Dot and some 2 fab neclaces and a few scarfs as well. I am getting excited. Last time I was in Paris was on a bus trip with my mom and step dad and we were NOT very stylish. This time I am hosting a group from Toronto and want to look like I know what I am doing. Love the advise, thanks Gals.
I do love the peplum dress. And, I’ve reconsidered black. It will be the middle of winter, so black may be right… black would be wrong for summer in Cannes, in my opinion.
Few women in Paris wear jewelry during the day. They may wear small earrings and a wedding band. During the day, wear a scarf if you want to add something.
Just take a few basic outfits and change the look with scarves and such. (I use hats to make my basic black and/or burgundy outfits look different each day while in Europe, but not everyone is a hat addict.)
If you look good in jeggings, I would throw a pair of jean leggings into the bag… just in case they’ve become extremely casual in Cannes since I was there. (PS Casual does not mean American casual.) You could wear your jeggings and boots with your jacket. Skirts and dresses are ALWAYS good in Europe IMO.
ps I had another comment before this one, but I guess it was taken down because it had links. I will summarize it without the links.
Don’t talk loudly. The French speak quietly. Don’t go down the street smiling at everyone… you’ll look like an American idiot. Do say, ”Bonjour,” whenever you go into a boutique, restaurant, etc. Don’t put your hands in your lap when eating. Don’t wear sneakers. Cannes is like Beverly Hills, but it’s more boaty. A black and white or blue and white Breton top or scarf would be good.
Do be friendly with everyone, but not the waiters. They never chit chat.
