Turn a Cuff

I know I am really dating myself but I just decided to turn a cuff on one of my favorite linen blouses.

I love this blouse.  I wore it to death, and only the right cuff is worn and raggy.

I’m even considering using a different color of linen but the same weight, if I can find it.

The blouse sold out for about $179.00 at the one place I shop were everything is custom made.  I don’t shop there because I’m rich, I shop there because my sister manages the store and I can use her discount which is substantial.

They won’t re -cuff it for me.  They don’t have any of that fabric left.

I have a whole pile of sewing mends I need to do.

The last time I got my sewing machine out I hemmed a friends draperies for her, as a gift.  And the machine wasn’t running well, so I just put it away.

Does anybody else still sew?

actually I just made a list of sewing projects I’ve been putting off.

    1.  re-cuff the white linen blouse.  find suitable fabric, look for weight.  doesn’t matter if it looks odd or funky.

    2.  I have a hole in a linen nightgown.  I need to cut the nightgown off, just above the hole and re hem it.

    3.  hem my own damn curtains which have been hanging for 3 years already, unhemmed.

    4.  make some more Flax eye masks, for me and my friends.  they are very popular and my favorite is getting old.

    5.  experiment with larger Flax filled pillows.  my pillows are too hot for me. looking for cooler alternative.

    6.  use the antique linen light weight fabric and make myself some new pillow cases.

    7.  cut that whole roll of antique linen tea towelling into tea towels and hem.  For me and friends.

I used to sew making summer tops mostly from remmants I found in Libert’s of London remmant room! Have made costumes for my daughter recently for school/halloween etc. with a sewing machine I was recently given and have hemmed curtains.

My absorbing passion at the moment is writing so sewing has taken a back seat for now- just the usual mending etc.

I’ve made a couple of dresses in my life.  I used to sew a lot when my kids were babies.  Made those little Bubble suits the kids looked so cute in.  That was a long time ago.

However, occassionally I get creative.   I’m shocked at the cost of designer cushions.  My sister makes fabulous antique lace and linen cushions when she is in the mood, and sells them for a lot of $$.

But mostly I enjoy taking care of my clothes, and especially anything linen, fabric, whatever because once your hooked on linen it’s hard to wear anything else.

I still sew.  I have turned the collars on a couple of my husband’s shirts.  I made the curtains for two of my bedrooms.  I really scored on the fabric.  For one set of curtains I used the very nice fabric from 2 “designer” shower curtains I found on sale for under $3.00 each!  For the second set, used the fabric from a  duvet cover for a king sized bed (under $10).  I would sew more if I had a good table to lay out patterns and fabric.

It’s been maybe 7-8 years, got lazy. Most of my daughters clothes were made by my sister or me. I still have some outfits from her youth. Didn’t want to give away so nice. When I was attending services, all my clothes were made by me. My favorite machine is Singers 401A, clean it and it runs, 301 feather-weight quality. Even the old button hole machine….TRACK
