What colors are your toes flashing this season?
I’m wearing Essie’s “Aruba Blue”and it looks fantastic against my pecan/hazelnut colored skin, so I’m recommending it to women of all skin colors (see the white-skinned model and how good the color looks on her).
“Aruba Blue” is sophisticated and at the same time fun, and we 50+ women can get away with wearing it without appearing digitally age inappropriate.
I’ve claimed blue as my official summer of 2010 pedicure color. In case you’re curious, I rarely color my finger nails and prefer a clear manicure.
Be happy.
My favorite: OPI Passion Fruit (a very happy color!!)
Yak afternoon, I wear flesh tones cause my toes are terrible. No attention to them, please…TRACK
P.S. my daughter wears blues and pinks, I love color
Hi Yak: Great color you are using. My summer color is Bubblegum. It makes me happy when I see it. So far my feet haven’t betrayed my age (lol). I love sandals and summer.
Opi-Cajun Shrimp. It is an orangeish coral and looks great with or without a tan, but a little color is best. I have never dared try blue but I just might!
Tropical punch is good for those liking pinkish but I will also look at the Passion Fruit too.
I’m into purples this year. Right now I’m wearing a color from Sally’s called ‘dreamy’. It’s sort of a purplish-fuschia; plus it’s somewhat irridescent. Living in FL I like color on my toes–usually french on the fingers. However, in the winter I do wear color on my fingers just because it lifts my mood. It’s amazing how much color affects your feelings. Well, at least my feelings, anyway–lol.
I just gave myself a pedicure a few nights ago. I have on a fuscia color. I love color on my piggies. I try all kinds of different ones, mostly shades of pink as I have cool coloring. I have gel nails and usually have a French manicure. I love having my nails look nice.
Nice color, the blue goes with my varicose veins!
LMAO Namaste!!! You hurt my poor migraine-head by making me laugh out loud so hard, but at least you lifted my spirits. I need a pedicure badly, but I’m horribly allergic to the smell of nail polish, the smell of nail polish remover, the polish remover itself (which immediately makes my nails crack and peel)…. I’m trying to figure out how to at least give myself a good polish-free pedicure before my class reunion in less than two weeks…. I’m sure I’ll figure it out.
In the meantime, you ladies enjoy your blue, red, pink, shrimp, bubblegum and purple-fuschia toenails!
Do they make them for toenails? Do they even make them at all any more???
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3amCM8_JeMY
Shades of Barbra Streisand, Lee Press-Ons! What was used to glue those things to the fingernails and how did they get the press-ons to fit?
We’re a pretty colorful group, no?
Be happy.
super glue???
What are you yammering about? I didn’t say I want fake toenails, I said I intend to give myself a pedicure, as in my FEET, as in the SKIN. That doesn’t always mean colored polish, you know! O_O
Can you even bend over to touch your toes with all that flab???
Nope! What about you with the empty helium balloon?
ooops (note to self: vindictive witch keeps track as she has nothing better to do)
BWAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
HEY NOW – you edited your post after I laughed hysterically at you! That’s just out and out rude. So I’m doing it, too. I, however, would never call you nasty names because I have class. (la, la, la, la, la)
BWAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa x 2
have we gone and taken over another thread???
Yep. We’re really kind of awful that way, and we should really try to grow up or something. You go first.
oh, no, be my guest…after you…I have class, too, you know!
BWAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa…your just jealous that you didn’t think of it first..nite, sweetheart, me and my purty toenails are going to sleep!
Duffy M, have you tried buffing your nails to a high shine? I’m surprised no one has created a hyperallergenic nail polish and remover.
Be happy.
The problem isn’t my nails, yakkity – its my SKIN. (I possibly didn’t mention that, oopsie.)
time for a tummy tuck, Duffy???????????????????
No, just a teensy bit of liposuction perhaps. You, Namaste?
the admins have banned me from replying to you @##$%^&^%$#!
O_O
Namaste!
I have a question, Namaste. (I’m still up at 3:30AM with raging insomnia.) Are you of the mistaken impression that my “shocked eyeball” icon is an owl saying “Whoo” at you? Or did you just feel the need to shout your name out for no apparent reason?
Either way, your reaction was very odd, dahlink.
When I lived in Singapore, I used to go to a chirpodist every 6 months or so for what I called a ‘medicure’– she would soak my feet in a foot bath with tea tree oil, dry them, carefully shave off any calluses with a scalpel, trim my toe nails and I’d be on my way. I don’t know if there’s such a thing as a chiropodist in the U.S., but a podiatrist should perform the same service (after all, diabetics are recommended to have their feet cared for in this manner by a podiatrist…). No nail polish remover, nail polish or any other chemical smells in the office other than the usual doctor’s office smell of disinfectant.
I have diabetes and I have to see a podiatrist every 9 weeks…my feet look and feel great after each appointment..I tease them that I am going to bring nail polish with me mext time!
Here we go… now where’s meigler?
I yelled at her, yakkity – that should get a response. (snort)
LMAO!!! New to this site and when I read this, after I could see again, I continued reading the blog all the way to the end. The bantering is real and so much more fun than some of the other blogs I’ve started into only to shut down due to shere boredome!! I’m living in the midwest and am one of the peachy/coconut colored girls so if I were to entertain the idea of blue toenails, I could never get past the vericose vein connection so that color is out! I’ll be on the lookout for more blogs where Namaste and Yakkity1 and a few others are commenting for my comic relief!!
I’m loving OPI Pompeii Purple—more of a shimmery magenta. The challenge is how infrequently I need a pedicure this summer. Bought the bottle for touch-ups
Hi Kim.
OPI is certainly popular, isn’t it? I wonder what their secret is for having ascended to the top of the nailcare industry. You never hear of Sally Hanson or Revlon polishes today, OPI dominates. Could it be the clever names of their colors?
Be happy.
I have used OPI for YEARS because not only do they have great colors and really fun names, the polish LASTS! It is top quality! I used Cajun Shrimp years ago and still love it, but my toes are not the most attractive so I use “Nomad Dreams”– a metallic beige with a hint of pink. Very, very neutral on my very, very neutral white-girl skin (I’m not dark, I’m not light– just ‘beige’)! I also used a denim color from some no-name company when I was in my late 30′s (I’m now 51), and also the neon colors that were hot at one point (don’t see those too much any more!). That was fun and I would love to give the funky colors a try on my feet again but just don’t want to call attention to yet another less-attractive part of my bod!
As of yesterday my toes are a lurid plummy shade (replacing the grass green I was wearing before). I don’t do manicures, but I’ll wear any color on my toes – often the more outrageous the better! I love OPI because it lasts a long time and doesn’t turn my nails yellow no matter now long I wear it. Those catchy color names don’t hurt, though…
yakkity1 (in her best Clint Eastwood growl): “Duffy and Namaste,* Get Offa My Thread.”
(Then, brushing off her bare-nailed hands): “That should take care of the resident low-lifes… wait, I’m a low-life, too. Never mind.”
You like that segue from Clint Eastwood to Emily Litella while staying on topic?
Be happy.
*I’ve got my eye on you, too, Magnolia–you’re running with a bad crowd.
another club??? “Resident Low-Lifes” ???
Yikes. I’m gone. Be happy – Ciao.
Okay, come back, but you’d better behave.
How do you like idea of the RLL Club? We need a club song.
Be happy.
But I’m not an RLL, I’m a CRT. I did a blog on it. Well okay, I did a blog on not taking myself seriously, but it ended with the sentence(s) “I rather enjoy being a member of the VN Comic Relief Team. In fact, I believe I’m damn proud of my C.R.T. membership.”
I do agree, though, that we need a club song. You go first – start singing and let’s see who joins in.
RLL and CRT are not mutually exclusive, you know. Who are the other CRT members? I’ll go read your blog and then take a cold shower–I’ve been over on Namaste’s “sexy songs” thread. Hey, maybe I can find the club theme song there.
Be happy.
Resident Low Lifes theme song with the missing third lyric.
Did you order the C.R.T. t-shirts?
Be hilariously happy.
No, but I will! Where are we wearing the shirts at/to?

ah, I’m loving the blues. I’m wanting a lighter, more caribbean/aquamarine type of blue. It’s my next pedi, for sure, before summer’s out! And because it will look good with my tan :->
I’m always an orange fan. Been using it forever, so I need something new… but I’ll always go back to it, because it is also a flattering color.
Orange is my favorite clothing color, and I agree with you that it is an extremely flattering color, but many women refuse (or are afraid) to wear it.
Be happy.
Well this summer I got a French pedicure & manicure and it looks absolutely awesome the light color goes with everything and my pedicure has lasted almost 4 weeks now!!!!!:)
I got a forest green OPI polish and was feeling all brave about wearing it on my fingernails and toenails when I purchased it…. then I got home and looked at it again and thought what the heck am I thinking 51 years old wearing green polish??? Oh well I may feel brave again after I get a pedicure, my feet are in bad shape right now!
Be happy.
Well, this is one of the happpppiest threads…… refreshing on a summer day. I have to admit that my favorite is OPI bubble bath-looks great against the suntanned skin I have in summer-a neutral, creamy pink-in my book. But…one of my daughters left a Sally Hansen pink behind, not sure of the exact name now, I put it on and it really has the staying power. Lasted longer than the OPI. So, maybe I will switch my brands!
Well it’s about time you showed up with your Bubble Bathed little piggies.
I’m buying OPI stock.
Be happy.
You always make my day, yakkity1, thanks once again! The beauty supply store in my town closed recently
so I’m not sure where I will buy the OPI now. Well, I’ll have to do some research and find another source, can’t switch brands immediately after you buy the stock!!!!! Take care.
I think OPI is sold online, but if not I’ll keep you stocked winelover.
Be happy.
Stocked-good one. I’ll get the nail polish, just send the stock!
I went to the website and it’s great. In case anyone else hasn’t seen it, it’s worth a visit, you can actually try a color. Input your own skin tone and you’re off and running! Fun, fun, fun. I think you are right, yakkity1, the color names really help. The first one I saw was Italian Love Affair-I’ll buy a bottle of that!!!!
Try a local nail salon– if they use OPI, often they will sell you the polish. There’s got to be a nail salon in your town, no matter how small. They’re EVERYWHERE!
Salons sell the OPI products but OPI has also come out with a line of colors called
NICOLE, these are sold in retail stores like Walmart and in different drug stores like CVS & Walgreens. Here in the Heartland the price averages $6.50, I purchased some so I could “recoat” my nails over the 4th of July weekend and found a color that was almost a perfect match to what my nail tech has used.
To my favorite posters Yakkity1 and DuffyM…your hilarious.. have you ever done a Briggs Meyer personality test? I’d love to know what type of personalites it says you have as I have read this entire thread just to keep up with your wisecracking… lols……….
Thanks Island Girl and CaroleR,
Yes, I can buy them at nail salons, I just liked my supplier who had hair care products, waxing supplies, etc. Thanks for the NICOLE tip, I’m going to try it!
Was that Sally’s Beauty Supply? The reason I ask is because they’re online too and they have all the supplies you mentioned.
Hi Olga,
No it was a private, one shop owner. But I’ve been to a Sally’s years ago-thanks for the tip-I’ll look online.
After reading all the posts I had to reread what all you ladies were talking about. Nail color…here’s my favorite, not that someone would care, it’s called Midnight Blue. My husband calls it *&%#@ me blue. He thinks it’s very sexy, it leads to some great nights:)
