Red bumps on upper arms/scars

I have suffered from red bumps on my upper arms since I was in high school…at times, it has been called folliculitis, but I’m not sure it is…it’s not really like “chicken skin” its more like actual pimples/red bumps underneath the skin that do have a white puss inside (sorry, gross I know)…I have them on my lower and upper arms…I’ve tried all kinds of lotions…no lotions…now, I have horrible scars…even on the inside on my lower arms…which is horrible when wearing summer shirts…any tips?  Has anyone used the creams that are supposed to remove brown marks/bleach the skin?  Should I go to a dermatologist?  I went years ago and he said to just use a buff puff…which didn’t help…thanks in advance..

Ok, funny confession time – I have/had those on my arms and butt through high school – I think the bumps on my bum (and my shyness about them) is the only reason I was a virgin when I graduated :-)

Other than commiserating, I can’t help.  The ones on my arms just sort of went away over the years – exposure to sunlight seems to help.  The ones on my butt are tiny, but still there, and occasionally one will flare up into a small boil and hurt.  I use normal pimple cream on them then.

    Buffing never helped me either.

Yours sound much worse than mine ever were (except for the butt flare-ups).  Like Sunblossum says – find the best derm you can.  I’d love to know what they say.

I have had the same symptoms on my scalp for the last 3 months.  Was referred to a dermatologist by my primary care physician.  The PA looked at my scalp and told me it was folliculitis, an infection/inflammation of the hair follicles.  She asked me if 3 months ago I had a stressful event occur in my life.  I told her that I had and she said that is what caused this.  She prescribed me an oral antibiotic and a medicated shampoo.  Who would have thought that stress could bring this on!  It has just about driven me crazy with all the itching, etc.  Maybe seeing a dermatologist could help you also.  Good luck and best wishes on finding help with this problem.
