I agree, exfoliation & moisturization are the keys! The only other thing that I would add is an SPF of 20 or higher. I also use a tinted lip balm with sunscreen – really makes a difference.

I AGREE! But I seem to have a different ritual. I exfoliate with a hemp cloth (from a Natural Food store) every day — in summer 2x and in winter just once. I use T-cel dandruff shampoo on the cloth! It is removes the bacteria which naturally grows on your face and removes dead skin cells as well. Sometimes I use Dove if it is very dry. I follow that with either Calendula salve (use a small amount and rub your hands together until they feel warm) massaged into my skin and neck vigorously! Everyone thinks I am crazy, but it works! Often I just use the hemp cloth (from a Natural Food store). They last a long time, just throw them into the wash with a little bleach. When my natural store has it, I use HONEY HOUSE PROPOLIS SALVE from Honey House Apiaries. It has calendula, plantain, raw honey, beeswax and comfrey root. It is quite thick and I was put off by this at first, but my friend insisted I use it in place of my calendula once in a while — especially in dry winter conditions. You know what, this kind of waxy stuff is WONDERFUL! I rub it vigorously into my face, neck and around my mouth and ears. People say my skin is beautiful. I love that because, I spent 30 years working out of doors in the Southwest, mostly without sunscreen.

While my skin is feeling that nice soft feeling, I use Physcian’s Formula blending powder (a brush is included) which does not contain the shiny minerals that make skin look old. A little Revlon powder/cream blush in a nice rose smoothed on by hand, some mascara if I want or some of the salve on my eyelashes and I am good to go. My lipstick is usually Burt’s Bees lip balm.

Sounds different, but takes no time at all and is good for my skin. I feel lucky to have stumbled onto this routine about 20 years ago! SW sun is a killer on you skin!

Oh, and frequent facials with green tea and milk are great, and clay of course. I love the lactic acid idea, I wonder if I can find some here. Thanks for all the info ladies!

Hey Trixie. No I haven’t yet. Addicted and no need for a 12 step program – LOL! Have you noticed an improvement in your complexion yet?

Interesting that these comments are under the subject of Finding the perfect foundation! Must be because we can’t have a perfect foundation without preparation.

Oh my – have you tried the new Even Complexion Mask??? I don’t think it will get rid of age spots, but it makes my face feel so smooth, hydrated, & fresh. I am so addicted, I’ll have to find a ’12 step program’ – LOL! It’s the same with Satin Hands – totally addicted.

I understand as well. When Mary Kay introduced Mineral Powders I loved it. It’s the best I’ve seen yet. But because my skin is blotchy plus a few of those ugly ‘age’ spots, I felt it took too many layers to give the coverage I desired.

Solution: After cleansing, and applying any supplements, moisturizer, and concealer, use either a liquid or cream-to-powder foundation perfectly matched to your skin-tone. With the liquid foundation, ‘set it’ with the mineral powder foundation – for a very smooth finish. No – there is no problem using layers of foundations – it’s called ‘masking’. The little extra time is SO worth the final look.

In winter weather, hydrating our skin is most important. And several others have mentioned applying more than one moisturizer. Good advice. And apply moisturizer before retiring in the evening. Your skin will thank you!

Consultants don’t lose anything from this. I would prefer that customers return products they don’t like, as I want them to love it as much as I do!

I concur! I dare say millions of women have cosmetic/skin care “graveyards” in drawers. Stuff bought, not used, or didn’t like after all, but feel stuck or that they’ll be given a hard time if they try to return it to the stores. Consumers rights state that we CAN return and get money back – regardless of the store policy. But who wants to go through all that? That’s another reason for having a personal consultant in Mary Kay Cosmetics. You try before you buy (free facial); 100% buy back – either all your money returned, or return product for another one. Oft times it is a trial and error – even in the best lines of product. We want quality for our hard-earned money, and in the economy such as it is now, that that has become paramount.
