About two years ago, I discovered a book called Staging Your Comeback by Christopher Hopkins. His specialty is women over 45 – and his approach is so upbeat and positive! [The Makeover Guy is a member of Vibrant Nation; check out Christopher's great makeover post here. ~ Eds.]
That July, I flew to Minneapolis (yes, from NEW YORK!) for a makeover day: haircut, color, eyebrow waxing (REALLY made a difference), makeup lesson (the best) and style/fashion analysis.
Check out Christopher’s website themakeoverguy.com, and watch a few of the videos: they’re fun and you can learn a lot from them, as well as from the book and companion workbook.

While I don’t do makeup every day (I work from home), when I do, it’s WAY better than before; and I have my hair cut and colored at a nice salon by a talented young woman, a $100/month indulgence. But as someone who now has my own business, and goes to many conferences, often speaking or moderating, I consider it a business expense (not deductible, however!).
BTW, I will be 69 in May…would definitely like to lose a few pounds (20 would be good), but otherwise healthy and pretty happy: good husband, wonderful stepdaughter, bubbly 4-year-old grandson, challenging 104-year-old Mom and a few good friends. Hang in there, and do whatever you feel is right for you and doesn’t break the bank – you’re worth every penny!

Deercats, I had already seen the video on the website and, although you weren’t bad before, the makeover was amazing. Too bad it is so far from California . You are lovely and have a great smile. I’ve ordered his book and can’t wait to get it.
This post makes me smile!

Deercats, I am retired and will turn 64 in a few days. I got Christopher’s book yesterday and have already read it. Such fun and great thought provoking ideas. Loved it. Boy I wish I could go there but will have to make do with the printed word and videos. Thank you for suggesting this great resource .
Oh my goodness. This is wonderful. You look amazing and hip and yes like Meryl Streep. Congratulations on taking the plunge and sharing.
I have been in awe of Meryl Streep ever since I saw her in “Sophie’s Choice,” and reading this and the allusions to her as a look-alike were dead-on. I have done a makeover, but it’s been 20 years, and I do believe this has inspired me. You look breathtaking!. zsa zsa
DeerCats, You look gorgeous. I went directly to Amazon & ordered his book. I can hardly wait. I think it is time for me to “come out of my cocoon”, too.
DeerCats-
Such an exciting transformation, very inspiring!
Yes Christopher Hopkins’ book is wonderful.
You look absolutely beautiful, amazing what the right makeup and haircut can do.
You do look a lot like Meryl Streep.
I’m 57, time to lose the glasses and step into vibrance. You’ve really given me a lift with your post.
All the best…
