1. The right stylist makes all the difference.
“I found a fabulous new stylist about a year ago who transformed my style. My hair is thick and fine and she now cuts and colors it for me in such a way that I can easily manage it myself with a blow dryer and a straightening iron (which takes longer to type than it does to do). I’ve never had so many compliments on my hair as I have in the past year, and frankly, I’ve always had compliments. They’ve just ratcheted way up since I found this new stylist. I can’t sing her praises loudly enough. I think that’s the ticket whether you want long, short or in-between: put yourself in the capable hands of an expert, and stay with her as long as the compliments keep coming in!” ~ Sarah Swenson

2. Choose a celebrity role model.
“I’m 56 and have had grey hair for several years. It is a pretty white color that people love. I get compliments on both color and cut all of the time. I found several pictures of Sharon Stone (who is the pixie/spiky queen to me) and took it to my stylist, who agreed that I could pull it off.
“I just dry and finger comb with some pomade. I use a root lifter by Paul Mitchell before drying. When drying, I rub my hair in circular motions to give it volume. I don’t like flat—I like poofy but not spikey. I want volume with softnessand this works for me. I recently went to New York City on a visit and was stopped on the street my many who told me that they loved my hair. If you are getting compliments … stay with it!” ~ GWhatley
3. Do what makes you happy.
“There are no rules for hair length at any age. I wish I could have long hair, but mine is so wiry and frizzy that it was taking 40 minutes, 3 appliances, and 2 products every morning just to get it to behave moderately. Now I have a Jamie Lee Curtis type cut and I love it. Do what makes you happy.” ~ Materexlibris
