Hairstyles for thin hair

If you start with a good haircut, you can greatly improve the look of thin, fine hair. Female hair thinning is very common in menopausal women. Your hair ages along with the rest of your body, and over time the hairs themselves may become finer and smaller in diameter. This leaves you with locks that feel and look thinner all over. The old styles you used to wear may no longer suit your changing hair’s needs. Explore new hairstyles for thin hair that give your hair lift and body:

  • Long bob. A long bob, or lob, is a very fashionable look, and great for women who have problems with female thinning hair. You don’t need layers to add volume to a blunt, long bob cut. Add long side bangs if your hair is noticeably thin around the front and temples. Use a 1-inch flat iron (after applying your heat protectant!) to make your hair look sleek and straight. The long bob haircut looks full and thick even without curls. To give your hair lift, flip your head upside-down after it’s straightened and apply lightweight mousse just to the roots of your hair.
  • Long curls. A long cut with just a little layering is the perfect foundation for a long hairstyle with light, loose curls. If your hair is a few inches (or more) past your shoulders, you’re a perfect candidate for this look. Part hair to the side, not down the middle, to make your style look trendy. Spray clean, combed hair thoroughly with a heat protectant before you begin curling your locks with a 1-inch iron. Curl from the bottom and go about halfway up, then release the iron vertically to create spiraling curls. Spritz lightly with hairspray after each curl. Once all the hair is curled, shake your head from side to side to loosen up the curls and help them look more natural. Curl away from your face when you’re working on hair in the front of your head.

  • Flip it. Medium-length hair that’s fine and thin in texture is a perfect canvas for a trendy flip hairstyles. For thin hair, the flip is a perfect solution. Very minimal layering is all that’s needed to make this hair happen. After using heat protectant, use a large (3-inch or better) curling iron to grasp the lower 4 inches of your hair. Curl the ends upward along the bottom and around your face. Even the curled ends with your fingers to make them look more natural, then apply lightweight hairspray to solidify the style.

Hair care for fine hair

Many women find fine, thin hair unmanageable. The stuff you used to use on your hair may not work once normal female hair thinning begins to occur. Switch to a lightweight clarifying shampoo to prevent the oiliness that commonly occurs with fine hair. Volumizing  conditioner can be very helpful in giving hair lift. Don’t style your hair with heavy gels and sprays. Use a light mousse or spray instead, because the other stuff will just weigh those thin locks down.
