It’s much easier to pretend that female hair thinning isn’t happening. But if you keep using that same old stuff on your hair, you’re just making your thinning hair look a whole lot worse. When your hair starts to change and become finer and thinner with time, like hair often does, you’ve got to make dramatic changes in the way you treat it.

Products for thinning hair
Women get used to using the same products, and everyone’s got their favorites. Once you find something that actually works, switching seems like an impossible idea. But you can’t keep using the same old stuff on your hair once it starts to change. Switch over to products that are made to help you manage female hair thinning problems.
- Shampoo for thinning hair. Look for sulfate-free shampoos to wash your hair. These special shampoos have extra vitamins and antioxidants to give hair exactly what it needs, promoting healthy growth and healthy roots.
- Conditioner. Use a volumizing conditioner to make your hair look fuller and thicker. Volumizing conditioners are made to strengthen your hair as well, making it less prone to breaking and damage so it looks healthier.
- Hairspray. Choose a lightweight hairspray to style your hair, and use a light touch when you’re doing it. Hairspray and styling gel can be heavy in hair, weighing it down to make it look flat and limp. Use a light spray or a light, frothy mousse instead.

Female thinning hair
Under normal circumstances, female thinning hair might not be so bad. But when it’s happening to you as a vibrant woman, thinning often isn’t the only problem. As follicles age, the texture of your hair may change. Commonly, follicles shrink and the shafts of hair end up becoming smaller as a result. Your hair becomes more fine in texture, and when this is coupled with thinning hair you end up losing a lot of volume.
Don’t just change the products you use. Change your hairstyles, too. Hairstyles for thin hair will make hair look fuller and thicker. Use a layered cut, highlights and other styling tricks to make your locks look like they have a lot more volume.
Start taking better care of your hair. Don’t wear tight hairstyles that put pressure on the scalp, because this can cause further problems with thinning hair. Use heat protectant on your hair if you’re going to blow-dry it or style it with heat, and be gentle when you’re brushing your hair.
