My mother’s hair was snow white by the time she was 45. It was so pretty. I wish mine would do that. Any ideas on how I can achieve this without stripping all the color out?

Do you have any gray at all? Im all silver and I love it but I also use the “purple” shampoos like Shimmer Lights to keep it that way. I think stripping it would really hurt your hair. If your mom had it I’m sure you will. Just give it time.
Aveda makes a really nice shampoo for gray hair called Blue Malva. Also, if you go to a salon, they can put a treatment on your hair, something along the lines of a cellophane that will bring out the silver, nice and shiny.
As you can see I am finally all gray as well…;) One thing I would add is DO NOT let a beautician talk you into ‘doing something’ about that gray hair unless you want to a -highlighted/lowlight – blonde and love doling out big bucks to maintain it..lol.
I hadn’t thought of using a different shampoo…TY gals!
My Mom had beautiful snow white hair also before 50(she still has it) genetics will determine the actual color your hair turns…mine is a light grey with white streaks and I am thinking that is as good as it gets(which is actually pretty darn good. Clairol used to have a huge selection of grey shades including white/silver which they discontinued when every babyboomer in the world starting turning grey…I am very Very VERY glad I quit coloring my hair; although the light blonde was easy to grow out with my light hair.
I went to several salons(that means lots of money) and not one would help me one iota to get to my natural grey color; their solution was ALWAYS to color it.. Maybe i should have tried a plain old beauty shop…
ronibuni Like you my Mom’s hair was a lovely silver white the front of my hair is just like hers but the back is more salt and pepper. When you have it cut accentuate the whitest part and it seems to blend in. I would never color my hair again I love this wonderful mature look and all the colors of lipstick that looks good on me now,
I am white since I was 35 or so and I always color my hair. when I was gray or white I got the Senior discount at 50 no thanks, I still have to look at me and like me, hair color is my friend! My mother in law is snow white but it’s ok after 80, she is beautiful, me not so much in gray. I am mahogany.
