Would you pay $2,000 for anti-wrinkle face cream?

Drawing inspiration from Hollywood’s fabulous faces, a London-based skincare company is launching a new anti-wrinkle face cream that retails for a cool $2,400 a bottle. The trouble is, you have to have a Hollywood-size paycheck in order to enjoy it for yourself. Does the cream work well enough to command such a high price?

Costly facial treatments

The new cream, The Count of St Germain, has been launched by Angel & Weightman. Named for the 17th-century alchemist, the cream is made of minerals, nutrients, botanical ingredients, vitamins, collagen and enzymes. Even stem cell research plays a part in the formula. According to the legends, St. Germain had the secret of eternal youth. But if you’re going to bank on folklore, it doesn’t hurt to have strong science to back it up.

The expensive anti-wrinkle face cream is designed to change your skin at the cellular level, defeating aging at the deepest part of your skin. According the Sandra Rothberg, head of product development at Angel & Weightman, the cream was initially developed for a single, very wealthy client. “She was so pleased with the results that she gave us permission to market the formula,” said Rothberg.

And if the price tag makes you wince, you should know there are some altruistic motivations at work. For every sale of the anti-wrinkle face cream, the company will donate a portion of its profits to charities that help women in need. The Count of St Germain is currently available online. If you’re having trouble coughing up more than $2,000 to modify your skin with this wonder cream, no worries: the website will actually help you reach payment terms to make it feel more affordable.

Is affordable the wiser choice?

Of course, if you’ve got that much money to pour into anti-wrinkle face cream, you have a ton of skincare options at your disposal. And if you don’t have that much money for facial treatments, like 99% of the world, you don’t have to throw in the towel on aging. Various studies have shown, time and again, that some of the more affordable anti-wrinkle face creams can be every bit as effective as those that cost a great deal more money.

It’s all in the ingredients. Look at the labels on the anti-wrinkle face cream formulas you buy, and the ones you want to buy, and you’ll discover that most of these different blends contain the same ingredients. Some of the most pricey creams contain excess ingredients that make them seem more special — real flakes of gold, for instance — but the reality is that your skin needs nutrients and sunscreen a lot more than it needs hundred-dollar truffles and caviar. Look for the vitamins and minerals that keep skin healthy, moisturizing ingredients that soften skin to prevent and minimize wrinkles, and a price tag that’s actually affordable. It is possible to find anti-wrinkle face creams that have it all, without all the cost.

This is utterly ridiculous.  There is nothing in the ingredients of this face cream that you can’t find in other less expensive (much less expensive) face creams.  Minerals, enzymes, antioxidants are common place in anti aging face creams today.  Research has shown these ingredients are necessary to combat the signs of aging.  They claim this cream provides treatment at the cellular level?  That is questionable since Over the counter creams are considered Cosmetics, not medications.  Even the most expensive face creams (cosmetics) are absorbed to a point and then the rest is wasted, washed away, rubbed off, and just sitting on top of the skin.  Many of the benefits of these topicol face creams is of it’s effect on the outer layer of the skin and most never reache cellular level.  If you truely want an antiaging face cream that works at the cellular level, buy Retin A which has been proven to decrease dark spots, decrease fine wrinkles, and boost collagen production.  Retin A is a medication that is proven to reach cellular level,  originally formulated for treatment of acne, but later found to have wonderful and effective anti aging benefits.  Best of all a tube of Retin A costs a mere fraction of these high end face creams  and certainly no where near $2000.
