1. Apply mascara only to the top lid.
“With mascara, I only do the top lid,” says Paula Ellen. “I never do my bottom anymore. This keeps all the heaviness away from the bottom of my eyes, which would pull everything down.”
2. Be sure your mascara doesn’t emphasize your under eye wrinkles.
“As we gals age, gravity makes lines on our faces,” says Cool and Groovy Makeup Girl. “Those lines have a color. If the color of the lines and the mascara are the same, the mascara will emphasize the lines. To avoid this phenomenon, lighten your color of mascara. If you used to use black, and you are fair with light hair, switch to brown. You will still get the effect of defined eyelashes because of the contrast between your skin and the brown. But the color will not be the same as the lines.”
3. Use mascara and liner to compensate for sparse lashes.
“Latisse works,” says Vibrant Nation author and beauty expert Lois Joy Johnson. “Applied daily, it makes skimpy lashes long and lush. But personally, I’ve decided the $150/month cost is prohibitive. And frankly, great black mascara paired with a thin line of black gel liner at the very base of the lashes can add enough eye drama. You want to intensify eye shape and restore firm definition in seconds. That’s what really makes the difference in mature eyes!”
4. Let your hair be your guide.
“I like black mascara for the evening,” says Cool and Groovy Makeup Girl. “It is the best color for clubbing. You know, in the dark. There, it is just a matter of contrasts. There is no color transmission when the light is low. But in the day or in brightly lit situations your eyes can detect subtleties in color and tone. So girls take note of the deepest shade in your natural hair color or the flecks in your iris. These colors will give you clues as to which shades are best, not just for your mascara but also lipstick colors, and blushes.”

Great tips! Any tip on how to deal with grey eyebrows? Is there a product, other than dying them, that I could use daily that stays on? I tried mascara but it looks too fake; I also tried using some black bare minerals and brushing it on the grey eyebrow but it tends to come off. Thanks.
