I am still liking and using my Rebounder mini-trampoline (started the regime on May 7th). I bounce about 5 times a week for 30 minutes at a time. I listen to music on my iPod Shuffle and find that’s critical to keeping my interest and tempo going.

I also work my upper body at the same time by having a 3 lb weight in each hand; I do different movements to work my arm, shoulder and upper back muscles in an effort to reduce the “bat wings” under my arms, and to combat my ”back fat”.
I am still living in a hotel (it’s been 3 months and our condo flood damage repairs are still not complete) and don’t have access to a scale, so I don’t know what my weight is. I do feel better when I use my Rebounder, so that’s something. Just moving and getting your blood circulating is always a good thing.
However, I went on a thyroid med (dessicated pig thyroid) about 10 days ago, and find that is what finally seems to have shifted my body in the right fat-burning/weight loss direction.
I eliminated alcohol a month ago, and then eliminated all refined carbs and starches when I began the thyroid med. Since then, my clothes are fitting a little looser and I am much less puffy in my hands, feet and ankles. I can actually get my rings on and off now, no matter what time of day it is (not so in the past).
I credit my new thyroid medication for these changes. I also think my body is responding better to the Rebounder workout in the last 10 days than it was previously. I think I see less “bat wing” flapping now, in just 10 days on thyroid med, along with exercise.
I do like the Nanoblur which I previously blogged about, but probably won’t bother using it every day. As it says right on the box, it’s great for special events/occasions (e.g., dates, presentations - whenever you need to put your best face forward). As someone else commented on one of my Nanoblur posts, it goes on quite matte and does not look dewy by itself. That’s why I use Jane Iredale Mineral Cosmetics, because her light powders go on well over Nanoblur and provide the hint of dewy sheen some of us are looking for. I am sticking with my claim and belief that Nanoblur takes about 5 years off my face (although they claim you will look up to 10 years younger).
And, at just $39.00 at tube, the Snoxin (anti-wrinkle, anti sagging serum) is working as well, if not better, than some of the $300.00+ serums I have tried in the past (like “La Mer”). For the price, and what I am seeing so far (some wrinkle softening - particularly my crow’s feet), I am sticking with it.

The Bottom Line: For now, the Rebounder is safe from being banished to the crawlspace to collect dust, Nanoblur will be applied whenever I am working or socializing/in the public eye, and Snoxin is worth continuing to see how much potential improvement I can assess over 30 days.
Todo bien. (It’s all good.)

I would like to know where i can buy Nanoblur without going online and paying shipping charges ?? I have looked in Walgreens and USA Drug stores. Can anyone enlighten me ???
All I know is that, in Canada, someone said they bought these products at a Rexall Pharmacy. Don’t know about the USA. You could go to the Indeed Labs’ website and e-mail them to find out where their store points-of-sale are in the States.
I agree on the “for special occasions only” use of the Nanoblur, since that had been my plan all along. (grin) I’m going out to lunch tomorrow with a group of friends, so I’ll try it out then and see how it goes/looks/feels, etc. And then I’ll be ready to use it and look MAHVELOUS at my 40th class reunion next Saturday.
So, I purchased Nanoblur a few weeks ago and used it a couple of times. Will say that , as far as wrinkles go,etc. not a life changing difference. However, I did use it last night and when I got home and looked in the mirror, I could not believe how nice my face and makeup still looked. My makeup looked as good as when I had just applied it and I did have a nice “dewy” look . I am attending my 40th reunion in 3 weeks and I will definately be using Nanoblur!
Not sure what type of cream this nanoblur is! Can you also use it on your neck to tighten? Why do you only use it sometimes?
I need help. Hope this wil do it. How is the cost?
Check out Nanoblur (what it is and what it does) via the link in the blog post or at http://www.nanoblur.com – it’s $19.00. It’s not a skin tightener – more a softening camouflage for facial wrinkles.
I will want to gave updates on the bat wings. I have lost 85 lbs after weight loss surgery and the worst part is am looking my age of 65. Gasp. I need easy and doable things to help the skin sag. If the rebounder really helps I want to know.
I do skin brushing daily which helps my fibromyalgia and supposedly will tighten my skin. . .
Hi Sharon, Congratulations on your weight loss. I had WLS nearly 8 years ago. Now 100 pounds smaller, I also have skin issues. If your weight loss is recent it does take some time to realize what shape your body will settle into. I have found that skin elasticity that is present in younger years is not helpful now. (am 63 now) I am very active but my exercise option is just walking about 4-5 miles several times per week. Jarring on my knees & hips with bouncing around methods of exercise gives me visions of pain in my joints. I am realistic & know that I can not achieve the appearance of many years younger (darn) but I always attempt to present myself with “my best foot forward”. I spend effort putting my entire self together every morning. I wear age appropriate, casual clothing (jeans, capris, twill slacks & tops, blouses & jackets that usually sport 3/4 sleeves) I am fortunate in being 5’8″ tall so distribute my weight well. I have never smoked or consumed alcohol so have those factors in my favor. I look around me at former school mates & similar aged women & am quite sure I look & feel years younger than most of them.~~~ I have considered skin reduction surgery particularly for the “bat wings” & my knees which have been left with an extra bulge on the sides but the verdict is still in consideration on that. The fact that you & I are so much healthier for having lost the weight is a great reward. I cover up what I can & “spruce up” what is visable & greet the world with a smile every time I walk out my door. Life is beautiful & so am I, bat wings & all. If you come across some answers to our shared concerns I would like to hear about them. Enjoy your week, Darlene
I’m lost. What is skin brushing. I am sure I could do it; I have fibromyalgia and RA; it sounds like something to do with getting lymphatic systems to work properly. But I’d like to hear more about it, please.

Hi Sharon. What is skin brushing?
These things are all well an good for 40-50, what about 65+, I don’t have too many wrinkles on face due to being a fatty, but I have lost 30lbs since last Aug 2009. Plenty of bat wings and turkey neck, any advise other thn face lift which is out of our retirement budget. also have nanoblur which I use at times.
I find it interesting that you credit the tyroid meds and not the fact that you cut out alcohol and cut down your refined carbs.
As far as the sagging skin problem – there is no skin shrinking solution as far as I know. Whoever comes up with one will make a fortune! But you can get fit and fill out some of that skin with nicely toned muscle. Working with weights, and a trainer can help.
There are exercises you can do for your face too. There are over 50 muscles in your face. That is one of the features at RebelWithaFork.com/members this month. You can find tons of exercise videos at YouTube. Just remember to start off slowly and don’t over do it.
I credit the thyroid meds because I have completely cut out alcohol and refined carbs for weeks at a time (in the past year or so) and never lost an ounce.
Believe me when I say that I’m sure a lot of the credit is due to the thyroid meds. I have been working out five days a week for many years and have always been an almost fanatically “clean” eater (which included avoiding refined carbs for years and don’t drink) and was always slim and fit. But when my thyroid went wonky about four years ago I absolutely couldn’t keep up with the fat that accumulated on my body. The working out and healthy diet just didn’t do it. Thyroid meds are what is making the difference. Once I was diagnosed as hypothyroid the weight gain all made sense, darn it. I avoid meds like the plague but am grateful for these.
I am surprised that you credit the medication only… Doing the same thing with my diet, I got the same results WITHOUT any thyroid meds. But– since i don’t think i have a thyroid issue, perhaps what you needed was the combination- thyroid AND diet change. (my daughter has been battling the ‘right formula’ issue for her thyroid..) I have to admit, i did not cut out alcohol– about 2-3 glasses of red wine per week. when in a moment of weakness, i started eating sugar again, the tummy came back.. so i am on the sugar-free push again, this time i hope for good. I have a new swimsuit i MUST wear!! lol btw i love your saying– todo bien–and use it a lot!! thank you!!
Hi Carolyne,
Guess I should have been clearer about my weight loss efforts PRIOR to adding thyroid meds. For about 2 years (ages 49 – 51) I battled creeping weight gain, and nothing seemed to arrest the steady gain, or enable me to lose weight. Diet and exercise changes I had used successfully in the past to drop 10-12 lbs in a month did not work at all. I would go up to 6 weeks at a time of proper diet and exercise (no alcohol, no refined carbs, just healthy eating and exercise) and the scales would not budge, at least not downward.
Without the thyroid meds, my body had lost its fat burning ability. That needed to be restored before diet and exercise would have any impact.
My body did the same thing! It was so frustrating to be doing all the right things and still looking flabby and gaining weight. It was a almost a relief to get the diagnosis of hypothyroid and to know there is a remedy for that. I actually began by consulting with a naturopath, which is what I usually do. We tried and tried with some success to get my thyroid back to normal but it would always slow down again. Finally I consulted with an MD who specializes in hormones and I’m beginning to feel and see the difference. Hormones are so tricky!
Talking about thyroid medication. I would like to know what levels of the THS hormone(the blood test indicator of hypo or hyper thyroidism) is normal for a 63 year old. I have read books indicating that the normal range for the THS is .05 to 5.0. This is very broad! Is there not a normal for different ages and weights? And is it the higher the reading the more hypo you are? I would really like to understand how the meds work. I certainly still have trouble losing weight and the medicine never really speeds up my metabolism. Do you know if it is supposed to?
Thanks for any input you can give me.
TSH is only one indicator of a thyroid problem. There is also T3 and T4 levels to be considered.
The range of .05-5.0 is pretty broad, but it is a lot better than it used to be!
There really isn’t a variance for ages, weights, etc.
Yes, the higher the TSH, the more hypothyroid you are.
I know when I am off my meds I gain weight at the drop of a hat. In fact, last time when I could not get out of the house (I am partially disabled, so getting out when it is icy or snowy is not going to happen for me), I ended up being out of my medication for almost 7 months. My doc would not call in a refill without new bloodwork. Couldn’t get out to get bloodwork, so welcome to the vicious circle. Finally got my bloodwork done in June (I was late in finding a place I could afford), and finally got back on my meds. But, shockingly, during that time I managed to pack on a little over 30 lbs. I was shocked!
So, hoping that getting my levels back up (I have to get another test done in about two weeks to measure how the new dose is working) will also help to start shedding that extra weight. Nothing changed except removing the thyroid meds, so there’s a definite connection. Some drs don’t think that there is, but there is… we know it! As far as speeding up metabolism – I don’t think it really does that. I DO think that it helps to regulate ALL the body systems, so they work more like they are supposed to be working. For example, my hair is growing back in (it had gotten so thin you could see my scalp over the entire top), my thought processes are back, and my coordination is much better. Some might argue that all the body systems are metabolism, but that really is a separate thing.
Anyway, there is a great site on About dot com that goes very extensively into thyroid medications, how they work, why they work, what to look for, etc etc that you would find very helpful. Not sure if I can share links, so will add one and try it. This is info, not a sales pitch, so hope you can find some of what you are looking for…

PS – for those who think this will be the “cure” for extra weight, it isn’t!
As my old doc used to tell me – it can help stop further gaining, but won’t automatically get rid of the weight put on while hypothyroid. It still takes diet and exercise to move the fat stores…. the thyroid regulation will just help the weirdness.
I would like to add to MusicalMom, if you don’t mind? Make sure you get Ft4 and Ft3 testing, because, many times thyroid problems are not found with the TSH testing. I agree that the TSH range is too broad. It use to be 10, would you believe?
I am definitely not a fan of the TSH test. Have had thyroid problems since the age of 36 and now I am 57.
Thyroid.about.com is a great informative site.
I am using something that was advertised on TV called Shake Weight. It was designed to firm up the arms and really seems to be working. They do have a web site. This little apparatus has made my arms stronger and firmer. It works better than lifting weights for me. You might want to try it. Priscilla
