I’m sure you have heard all the good things coconut oil is good for. My daughter and her husband and been using it for quite some time. I just started using it a few months ago. I have been doing research on all the benefits of coconut oil and this is a little of what I found.
Because coconut oil has a large amount of saturated fat, you would think it would be bad for you, but on the contrary it is not. That is because it contains about 50% lauric acid, which helps in preventing various heart problems such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
It is also suppose to help in weight loss. It is easy to digest and contributes to healthy function of the thyroid. It is also suppose help to increase your metabolism. Now I haven’t been on it long enough to see any benefit. Currently, we are moving, and we have been in a motel, eating out for every meal for several weeks. Hopefully, as soon as I get settled in our new home, I can reap the benefits. After all this out to eat stuff, I’m going to need to loose a bunch of weight!
Coconut oil is suppose to be good for the skin too. Lately, I’ve been using it on my skin at night; my face included. Because it tends to penetrate your skin after while, it is not that greasy. It is at first, but after awhile, not so much. It does mention that coconut oil is suppose to be good for skin conditions. Now I’ve had this rash on my lower leg for close to a year now. I’ve been to several doctors for this, including a dermatologist several times. I have had so many prescription creams that I can’t begin to tell you the amount I’ve spent, and still I have this nasty, itchy rash. And, no it has nothing to do with my self tanner. The fact is, I started using it after I got this rash so it doesn’t look so bad. Anyway, the coconut oil has not helped to get rid of the rash. It has not spread, but it also has not gone away. So, the jury it still out on coconut oil and skin conditions.
There are so many benefits of coconut oil. I found a really good article http://www.organicfacts.net/organic-oils/organic-coconut-oil/health-benefits-of-coconut-oil.html is the web site. It is a good read with A LOT of information. I highly recommend the read.
One thing it did mention that I do not agree with is the benefits of coconut oil on your hair. Now I do believe that it makes a good conditioner BEFORE you wash your hair. I have used it and kept it in over night. Then in the morning I wash it out. Coconut oil seems to soak into your hair overnight. So it is not so greasy in the morning. Today, though, I tried to use it AFTER I washed my hair like it said in the article. I used very little, because I do have very fine, yet think natural blonde hair. I towel dried my hair, and left the towel on my head while I put my self tanner on, and then put my make up on. After that, I started to blow my hair dry. Boy! Did I EVER have a mess. I looked like a grease pit. I was not happy, as I had to wash my hair again, careful not to ruin my self tanner and makeup. I think I was successful as to not mess up my self tanner, but I had to redo my makeup. Good thing I don’t have anything else to do today.
Anyway, while coconut oil is good for many things, it is NOT good for after you wash your hair conditioner.
