  1. Avalon Organics Lavender Revitalizing Eye Gel ($16.79 click here to buy) Gels have a cooling sensation, so avid Kindle readers and contact lens wearers will love this eye treatment. Natural line-plumping hyaluronic acid and a peptide complex firm thin delicate skin around the eyes, while organic lavender, licorice root, and arnica take away redness and circles.
  2. Bare Escentuals BareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation ($22.80 click here to buy)Can’t stand the feel of liquid makeup or creams but want subtle color and sun protection? Try this loose mineral powder that buffs on fast. It leaves your skin feeling naked, and the original formula (not the newer matte one) gives a radiant look to dry skin—hard to believe powder does this until you try it. There are no parabens, sulfates, synthetic dyes or fragrances, petro chemicals, talc, oil, waxes, or preservatives to think about either.
  3. Burt’s Bees Radiance Body Lotion ($6.99 click here to buy) They’ve come a long way from making lip balms. What else but royal jelly, the substance made of nectar, pollen, and flower parts that honeybees produce for the queen bee (so she lives forty times longer than her worker bees!), could make this brand’s body smoother a must-have? Royal jelly has amino acids, vitamins C and E and multiple B vitamins all by itself. Then sunflower oil adds moisture while natural mica—a light reflecting mineral—adds a satiny sheen. Slide this down your arms, neck, and legs to glow. (P.S. Burt’s Bees Radiance Day Lotion SPF 15 [$15.77 click here to buy] for the face is terrific, too.)

  5. Carol’s Daughter Bring In The Moisture Gentle Face Wash ($20 click here to buy)Don’t you love the name of this brand? Lisa Price, a Brooklyn, New York, native who really is Carol’s daughter, started this brand from her home in the early ‘90s and still makes each product by hand. This foamy face wash gently slips off makeup and daily grime with willow bark extract (a natural source of exfoliating salicylic acid), moisturizing aloe vera leaf extract, and soothing ylang-ylang and patchouli. No mineral oil or petroleum in this either.
  6. Fresh Soy Face Exfoliant ($42 click here to buy) Alina Roytberg and Lev Glazman started out making artisanal soap and ended up with a brand that loves natural ingredients like sugar, milk, soy, and black tea. I still adore Fresh’s Sugar Face Polish, but this gentle amino acid and soy protein cream is gentle competition. Filled with jojoba, rosehip, and cucumber seeds, it polishes off dead cells with no irritation in its wake. Proteins and isoflavones from soybeans inhibit excess pigment from forming and stimulate collagen production, so your skin feels denser, thicker.

These are all great tips and products. I’d add Arbonne to this list. I am a consultant to be clear. I became a consultant because I couldn’t find a selection of products that were all great, good for Mama Earth and us, and vegan and gluten free. Living a toxin free life is possible.

I work with Black Box Cosmetics. Their skin care is free of parabens, sulfates, aluminum, gluten and GMO’s. They are vegan and cruelty-free. The formulations are fresh and you can order refills to save money and extra packaging.
Unlike most skin care products that are water-based, Black Box is aloe based, simple and effective. For mature skin, they offer the Restoration line.

That Burts Bees SPF 15 lotion has been discontinued.  I have noticed this with many of the posts I read.

I am so, so happy to see a post on here about healthy cosmetics!  People don’t seem to know that, unlike food, there are virtually no government regulations on skin care products or cosmetics.  You skin is an organ and it absorbs everything you put on it.  It goes right into your body.  So I pay a lot of attention to the ingredients list.  My go-to website for deciding the purity of a product is the Skin Deep database on the website for the Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit organization that rates the skin care products and cosmetics found in the market today.  Arbonne is definitely not non-toxic and definitely not organic…I have researched that brand thoroughly.  I don’t know anything about Black Box.  I personally tend to use Aubrey and Nourish brands a lot, but if you look them up in the EWG database, the fragrances are toxic.  Fragrance is a huge problem and it amazes me that companies don’t scent their products with organic essential oils rather than fragrances.  Everybody has to pick and choose what they expose themselves to.  I really try to make it as pure as possible…AND from socially responsible companies.  http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/

You make really good points. It’s true Arbonne is not organic. They have never claimed to be. I’ve used EWG for years and do follow their protocol. The fragrance issue that you speak about is because many cosmetics use animal fat as their collagen source. Look up animal renderings for more on that. Arbonne doesn’t use animal fat, they’re 100% vegan. When an animal fat is used as a filler the smell has to be covered up and it’s often a chemical fragrance which uses pthtalates as the base. Pthalates are the issue as they are endocrine hormonal disrupters and that can lead to breast cancer. http://www.breastcancerfund.org/clear-science/radiation-chemicals-and-breast-cancer/phthalates.html….Kudos to you for staying true to EWG they are a great resource.
