I cam across a footwear line called mbt shoes. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these?

I just ran into a woman while I was Xmas shopping who has them (for about 2 years). She absolutely loves them. I got the Scheechers Shape-ups for Xmas (same thoery). We’ll see, I have 30 days to decide if I want to keep them. But anyway, she swears by hers (altho they are 2x more expensive than the SU’s). Says they eliminate foot fatigue and pain which I get from power walking on pavement. Good luck and Merry Christmas!!
I have mbt shoes. They are way too expensive, but I have a fussed ankle and I was desperate to find a pair of shoes I could wear and not have pain..
With mbt shoes you walk using your center of gravity and do not come down on your heel and roll forward. So much less stress on the joints. You must use your muscles to keep your body centered
They do work for me. They exercise the abs and butt along with the leg muscles. I guess anything that look different is considered silly,
Having knee replacement done next year. Do you think these would help with the joint pain? When I went to the web site the sizes were mens UK how do you know what size to order? Is there any store that carries them so you can try them on first?
Hi SandyK ask your PT but I bet they would. They are supposed to be gentle on the joints.
I had tremendous pain in my ankle joint before I had the surgery and I didn’t know about these so I was wearing a brace to hold my joint stable. I had bone on bone. The pain was so bad I decided to have the fusion.
After I had my ankle joint fussed together my gait was different. I had all kinds of problems with my hips and leg pain because I was favoring the other side. ( I have to say the pain was not nearly as bad as before the surgery)
.When I wear these MBT I don’t do that. I walk more normal. Much less pain.. I bought my shoes at a good shoe store.
I tried every pair of shoes in the store at any price and these are the only ones I don’t have to wear a custom orthotic in and they feel good.
Good luck. I am in CA and I bought them in Footcaress shoe store. It specializes in Comfort and stability.
Thanks for your response. I will ask my Dr. and Therapy guys. My knees are bone on bone also. I am looking forward to the surgery, because I figure it can’t be any worse than it is now. If the first one comes out good then I’ll have the other one done later. These shoes sound like something I’d like.
Good Luck, with the surgery. I’m only imagining hw much pain you must be in. I agree you will feel a lot better once its over.
My Doc told me when you can’t take the pain any longer you will have the surgery. He was right. I still have some pain but it is nothing like before.
Have a good New Year..
Try the FitFlop shoes. They are also recommended for patients who have had foot or knee surgery.
Lynnv, just saw your post. didn’t look at my computer yesterday. I just vegged out all day. I did clean the floors. What a life.
Thanks for the advice and info. I hadn’t heard about these either, but will certainly be looking into them. I wasn’t on the computer yesterday, had family here all day.
Thanks.
Anybody gotten the Sketchers brand? I think they are a little cheaper. Chic used to make a brand not quite as high and arched and I really liked them.
Absolutely, good they are. I have knee problems, and these light weight shoes keep me off pain. I wear them 8 hours at work…and have asked all that dare not question that why I am wearing the at work…they let me work.
Worth every pennyspent.
I have MBTs and haven’t had a good experience with them. Because they are so ‘high’ I actually fell off one while walking briskly and twisted my ankle. The ankle has never been the same and I never noticed the promised benefits – better posture, working of the butt and leg muscles. I’m now convinced that there’s no shortcut to a tight bum, thighs and calves. It would be nice, but I don’t think the marketing is true. I’ve also read that the ‘research’ showing an improvement to one’s figure was based on 5 (yes that’s a single digit women on a treadmill. Got that straight from The NY Times. But, the same article said that Sketcher sales have been off-the-chart. In conclusion, I’d say that it’s a nice fiction.
Marci
Marcianne hi, I know how that could happen. It is a new way of walking with the MBTs.
When I first got them I walked very gingerly. You have to walk using your center of gravity and it feels like you are walking flat footed. When you are standing still you can not really relax the muscles because you will start to rock back. You must stay in the center.
For me I had such a problem with my feet and the mechanics of walking that I was willing to try these and they do work for my joints.
Now I will say they are high. I had to get longer pants like the gals who wear the high heels. I could not stand to see them with ankle length pants.
In the summer its a problem. I live in Northern CA and it get hot as hell here. That’s a problem.
thnx duckyone59. maybe I’ll give them another try. i’ll be more attentive to my walking and see if I can get the hang of it
I had been wanting to buy the MBT shoes but the price put me off. I saw a pair of white (mbt) shoes by Curves through Avon for $50 so I bought them. I love them so much I decided to buy a pair of black MBT shoes (on sale-on-line) because Curves only have the one pair. I have to say the Curves are so much more comfortable than the MBT, but I’m going to try and give them a chance.
They really do work. Others might want to try Curves, they’re great.
i have been wanting to buy those shoes for three years now. Saw them first in a Bliss catalog and thought they were a great idea. I still have trouble wrapping my brain around $350 for a pair of sneakers, hence my reticence. Whould I splurge in 2010? I walk five miles every morning.
WOW, 5 mi every morning. Congrat to you.
I think I paid $200 but I bought them 3 years ago. It is too much. But for me. It all relative, I had spent so much on every shoe made I think I must have spent $$ more.
I am a shoe person and its such a bummer to not be able to walk with out pain.
Go to a good shoe store and make it clear you will be able to return them if you don’t like them. One good walk should give you the info you need.
I think Zappos will let you return. with no questions asked.
Hi, Lisa. I also had problems with paying $350 for MBTs. I eventually got them from the Bliss catalog, on sale for about $150. The style selection was limited but I didn’t care since the price was so good. Keep an eye out and you’ll probably find them at a discount. Try eBay!
My friend also bought a pair of the Skechers Shape-ups for $99 and claims they really make her feel better (she has a hip problem) and she wears them all day at home. the price is the major down point. Can these shoes be worn all day? I can’t help but think about the Roots shoe craze of years ago. The shoes was constructed differently than a standard shoe to help alignment of the body but, after wearing the shoe for a few hours, it became uncomfortable (for me). Still, if the shoe actually worked as it promises, the price would probably be worth it, maybe. Still, a $100 for a pair of walking shoes is a lot to spend.
I think the roots shoes were made so the heel was lower than normal. Like walking the sand. That’s the worst thing in the world for me. I could not bend my ankle so when the heel is lower it was impossible for me to move.
You know they are always coming out with something. For me the MBTs are the ones that work.
I have not tried the skechers. Maybe I will try these this summer.. THANKS

What are these shoes? Are they what I have heard called the Z coil? I have heard they are great and expensive. I also hear they are very well worth it, though.
I just looked the mpt shoes up. No, they aren’t what are the Z coil but they look like they could work well. I bought some shoes from Avon, not near the same I am sure but they looked like a platform like those. Oh what comfort they are! I wore Birkenstock shoes for the comfort for years for their comfort but now I just try to find the most comfortable one I can get. Silly or not, enough of us can make it a style, right? LOL
Hi, I bought a pair like those , also from Avon….I love them….they only come in white and look athletic, but they are half the price or more. And they feel terrific. I heard today that alot of police women wear a form of them, probably from another company since they need to wear black. I wear them to walk my dog….=]
I have bought a parir of the sandal type with velcro a few years ago, still have them, still love then and they are great just like the athletic ones. I am into comfort esp. with foot ware.
I also bought the sandals with the velcro straps. I must say they aren’t really my fashion style, but they are great if you have alot of walking to do. I also have the flip flop style, but don’t like these much because my foot keeps slipping out the back! I love Avon, because whenever something is current in fashion, skin care and health, they have their specialists (scientists and designers) work on making a comparable item at half the price. I am into comfort, too, at half the price! =]
Worth every penny! You can get them at a good price online at Zappos.com.
I have MBT sandals – got them on sale. Have major foot problems after 3 surgeries. These shoes are awesome and worth the price. They are ugly but my feet feel great in them.
I didn’t know MBT made sandals. I have to ck them out for summer. Ugly is OK when you can walk. I sure found that out. I don’t even try to wear cute shoes anymore. I kinda like the granola look. My MBTs .
I am just trying to maintain these days and be able to move. I think I will look at the skechers su’s.
I have the Skechers shape-ups and LOVE them. I walk two miles a day, and when I switched from Nike walking shoes to the Skechers SU’s, I immediately noticed a difference. I get a much better workout of my abs, butt, and thighs and my posture is much better. Also, no more shin splints – pain up the front of my lower leg. My ankles are very well supported and I highly recommend!
I have no experience with these – I looked into buying them but couldn’t get over the PRICETAG . . . I went with the Reebok EasyTone (much better price! altho I had to buy them online – there were none in the entire state) and LOVE LOVE LOVE them! The first week I wore them I could REALLY feel it in the back of my legs and butt — I also have the FIT FLOPs and they are GREAT! Both are soooo comfortable – I have wore them ALL DAY at work and they are great
Finally! Someone who has FitFlops! Yes, they are the best. About $59 for the flip flop, which sounds like a lot until you realize that you don’t want to wear any other shoe ever. I’ve gotten other colors by paying attention to close-outs and sales (SoleProvisions.com is great for this).
Best thing about FitFlops is that they are now available as regular shoes (clogs, shearling lined shoes, and snow boots) for those of us who would freeze our butts off wearing flip flops at this time of the year. Yes, they are a little more than I’d pay for a normal shoe. But I look for the cheaper ones (see close-outs, above), plus I’ve noticed that I’ve stopped wearing my other “normal” shoes. In the end, it works out. I don’t waste money shoe shopping anymore. (Unless it’s for high heels.)
I was wondering about the Reebok, but if they are that expensive, forget it. They are cute. And after the MBT experience (too costly, too high, feel like you’re climbing a mountain, can’t wear them at a normal function without drawing stares), I thought Reebok might be good for the gym and dashing around.
I do have a pair of Sketchers. They are like MBT light. I also got them for less than listed. (I’m nothing if not a thrifty shopper). I am so-so on them. What I didn’t like was that some guy in a parking lot recognized them immediately and asked if I was out for a walk to “lose weight,” then adding that I didn’t need to lose weight. What could I say? “They tone your muscles.” (None of your business is what I was thinking.) I don’t like exercise shoes that draw attention.
No one notices FitFlops.

I did try the Reeboks (I thought I was getting a discount but ended up paying full price–oh, well, I’ve paid that much for my kid’s sneakers). I do like them. Now they are my second favorite after FitFlops. MUCH better than MBTs. I’m really starting to wonder what people are seeing in MBTs, because I put on my old pair and they are way too high, very uncomfortable and you can fall off of them. It really invites an ankle injury.
FitFlops are really the best and I can’t understand why people in this conversation are ignoring them when they much less expensive and don’t look like exercise shoes. I don’t think I’ll post over here anymore. It’s just too irritating.
But thanks for the tip on the Reeboks. They are good and do work–in a different way. Look nice for a casual style.
I have a pair of MBTs. Bought them February 2009. I had to get the one style as I have narrow feet and none of the others would fit. Yes, they do work the thigh and butt, but they also are hard on my back if I wear them every day. Not sure why. They are also very heavy! I feel like I’m working with ankle weights on. Not sure if I would recommend them for most people particularly if you have any balance problems. I’ve heard the Sketchers are better. Might try it out.
Here’s a link to their shoes:
