The Silent Scream / OWN Network

I have been writing to Oprah and other talk shows for 15 years without success

I am now writing to the  producers of OWN to propose a “Master Class” / program entitled: The Silent Scream: Stories of women who escaped abuse and stories of women still struggling to find a way to be free.

I stayed for 36 years and then got a divorce.

I have always felt driven to make a difference, and I won’t stop contacting media types until I succeed.

The statistics are staggering (globally) 1 in 3 women abused and every 9 seconds a woman is assaulted.

Of course, abuse affects ALL of society….children are living with the abuse, some are bullying at school; sometimes the results are horrifying……suicide.

“10 milliion chidren witness some form of violence annually.  Domestic violence is the  leadng cause of injury to women–more than car accidents, muggings and rapeds….COMBINED.”

I don’t like the word, “domestic”—we don’t need that title….Violence is violence.

I’v also submitted my paper to the American Counseling Association in regards to verbal abuse for the Conference next year in San Francisco.

My  mother used to say:  “Can’t you just let that go?”  That was 40 years ago…haven’t changed a bit…Tenacious as a bulldog.

I have written to Gayle King, but received no response (supposedly at her home addy)……

I found her hairdresser, and have e-mailed her to see if she would give a letter to Gayle.

They say that persistence is the key……if that is true, I will eventually find someone willing to listen and give me a chance to make a difference in the lives of the abused, living in silence, fear, shame and confusion.

I think we make a difference by how we live our lives and in our relationships with others. People who make the biggest difference are not necessarily on in the public eye.

Even though I lived with abuse as well, I am more interested in helping someone one-on-one.  Although, if it works, let me know.  I’d like to deal with the silence of women abusing men.  It happens more often than most of us realize. ♥

You don’t have to wait to hear from Oprah or Gayle to make a difference to individuals.    If your true  motivation is to make a difference that can happen right now, today.

Volunteer in womens shelters.  Be a Big Sister to a troubled teenage girl.  Contact your local YMCA, contact women’s groups, ask them how you can help.  There are tons of volunteers opportunities out there , and tons of non profits who need people who are willing to devote time and actually show up and do the work.

Oprah and Gayle bring you 15 minutes of notoriety.  Are you sure your interest isn’ t more in being famous and on TV ?  They are inundated with requests from people who want their 15 minutes of fame….likely a thousand or more a week.  If you’ve written and written and written and not gotten a response, then their handlers and producers don’t think your “hook” is audience worthy for national TV.

But that teenage girl from a broken home, with a drug addicted mother, is WORTHY.  She is oh so worthy of your time and attention.  And she needs it desperately.

Call Big Sisters today.  Help a girl today, and that girl will become a healthier woman tomorrow.

I think what I wrote was misunderstood.  I HAVE been making a difference for a very long time  I am the moderator of an abused survivor’s group and member of other helping groups.

My motivation in wanting to go on tv, is so I can educate people (so they will not cause further damage when they hear someone is abused…by saying : Why don’t you just leave!?)…”When you blame me, you shame me, and keep me silent”    Without education things will stay the way they are.
To reach MORE people than I do now….is my motivation…..NOT 15 minutes of fame (although I am sure that would be exciting is is NOT my primary reason)

I  just applied for a Women’s Memorial Scholarship….(being that i am a Veteran)…I had to have letters of recommendation:

“She has influenced countless thousands  to process their similar pain, as evidenced by the number of people who visit her website and share with her their thoughts.”  She has served for years as a mentor to hundreds of people on several abuse-prevention sites over the years, helping to guide them along their journey.”

I say that, NOT to pat myself on the back but to say I have worked tirelessly to make a difference wherever I can.

I know all about a broken home, poverty, molestation, physical and emotional abuse…I will call Big Sisters!

I so dislike being misunderstood, and because words on a screen don’t always convey  everything properly, I guess.

Again, the object in working so hard and so long at using my knowledge and voice on a program, is to reach tons more people than I can right now.
I have felt driven to do that, and I listen to my inner voice, which whispers that it is important.
