How to start

My husband retired 4 years ago and we sold our horse farm in Minnesota moved to Indiana to be close to our son.  Boarded our horses and live in a development that takes care of grass etc.  The BIG reason for all of this change was so that we wouldn’t be tied down with animals to care for and we would travel to all the places I had been dreaming of experiencing.  As luck would have it this big change had some unfortunate turn of events.  My health took a deep dive that has left me weak and unsure of flying long distance in cramped planes and gruelling schedules of organized travel groups.  In addition my husband seems completeley turned off about traveling now.  I would like to try a travel trailer and visit the parts of the US and Canada that I haven’t seen.  Hubby is not at all happy about this idea.  I’m just about an emotional wreck over the idea of being stuck in Indiana when my soul wants mountains and oceans.  Anyone have some advise?

Would you consider traveling by yourself? Is he dead set against any and all travel? You can never go wrong with a tour group…Triple AAA and other groups have some great multi-day bus trips available. How about traveling by train?

Start small.  The coast of Michigan up through Traverse City (and beyond) is beautiful, if you can afford motels instead of dragging a trailer.  And Southern Indiana has a pretty nice State Forest, although nothing is as varied and sometimes spectacular as the coast of the Great Lakes, and this coming from someone from California. Anyway, see if he opens up and enjoys these smaller trips.  Living in Indiana is the right place to buy a trailer — they’re almost all made there!
