Proper Nutrition Doesn’t Have to be Complicated

A family that’s well together stays together. And as mom (of 3 active teenage boys, mind you) business owner and wife, I know the key to a healthy family isn’t simply what I put on the plate, but how I feed the minds of those around me.

And I get it. It can be overwhelming trying to decipher the best plan of attack to serve best those you love, but over the years, and alongside my Nutritional Brands family, I’ve developed some great habits for making sure my own family is on track with proper nutrition and healthy lifestyles.

Proper Nutrition Doesn’t Have to be Complicated

Here’s what you need to know to start your family off on the right foot!

  1. Food First – The Pratte household puts a major emphasis on live foods. Fruits and vegetables always take priority over artificial ingredients and preservatives. And we’ve done our best to equip our sons with basic cooking knowledge, so they’re not subject to fast food and other poor options.
  2. Natural Supplements Knowledge Is Key – Staying ahead of the curve is vital. My sons are in and out of high schools, athletic rooms and social trends, so we’re no strangers to emerging “super” supplements, dicey pre-workout concoctions and beyond. I’m committed to putting in the time and energy to ensure my boys maintain a healthy path with tried and true options instead of over-caffeinated and artificial options. We rely on quality multivitamins to cover essential nutrients like B12 and Vitamin C.
  3. Diversify the Protein – While it seems active, athletic teens never get enough protein, it’s important they do not over consume. And it’s equally important my boys diversify their protein from sources like whey, pea, casein, hemp, rice and others. At the end of the day, it’s about quality, not quantity.
  4. Happily Hydrated – We live in the desert, so it’s been drilled into my boys since they were young, but no matter where you’re raising your family, hydration is always important. Water is a vital ingredient to nearly every bodily function and most people these days are chronically dehydrated on account of sodas and other beverages.

No matter what, stay determined. You have the power to set a positive example for those around you. Most days, proper nutrition for the family`1q feels like common sense, but it’s also important to:

  • think critically
  • react honestly
  • weigh out the advantages and disadvantages of any dietary changes
  • keep the main things the main things
  • and remember that if something sounds too good to be true, chances are you’re right
