mid-winter escape to Paris
posted 11/18/2008, 02:56PM new!
My sister and I are planning a mid-winter escape to Paris (I know, it ain't April, but it's the time that works for us.)  Any recommendations of favorite hotels, restaurants and other resources would be welcome!

I've been to Paris in the mid-winter and it's a perfect time to be there!  One of our favorite little restaurants is La Savoyarde in the middle of the Latin Quarter--cozy, warm and oh so Parisian.  A must see church is La Sainte-Chappelle--the little jewel box chapel which looks as if it's held up by stained glass. Finally--for a mid-day warm-up--you can't miss Angelina's salon de the for the best hot chocolate you can imagine.  It's located on the Rue de Rivoli, just west of the Louvre.  Enjoy!

Bundle up and take a Bicycle Tour!  You will see more of the city and it is not expensive.  We were there in March and it was freezing, but we loved the bike tour.

Hotel Troyon is a small, inexpensive hotel with a incredible location. It is about a block or so from the Champs Eysees and the Arc de Triomphe, there is also a Metro stop super close. If you are looking for lots of extras this place isn't for you, but for the price and location it can't be beat.

Hi Merle

Paris in winter is great - no crowds, no queues which to me is the best thing!

I don't know your budget but you can stay out in the suburbs and experience the real Paris. We stayed in the 5th district, we were about 5 minutes walk to the metro which was a pleasant 15 minutes into the heart of Paris. The hotel was a moderate accommodation, very nice room called the Cardinal Rive Gauche Comfort on Rue Pascal.

Just near the metro is a beautiful church and the surrounding streets are filled with early morning markets, wonderful restaurants and shops selling everything imaginable.

Best wishes

Anne

There is a good little company I know called Context Travel which offers unqiue walking/educational/cutural tours in Paris (as well as Rome, Frlorence etc) with local guides.

One of my favorite botique hotel sites is i-escape.com, here are their hotel recommendations in Paris
