Mascara: fLash of Genius
posted 09/09/2009, 05:18PM new!

Hey ladies, I discovered a new mascara.  I've always favored Lancome mascara - I switched from "Definicil" to "Hypnose" (both by Lancome).  Recently I tried two new products from Cover Girl; "VolumeExact" has been out for about a year now but the other, "LashBlast," is brand new.  They work exceptionally well - almost as well as Lancome, and are a lot less expensive.

The only drawback I've found so far is that the Lancome is removed very easily with hardly any rubbing or tugging at your lashes.  It's not quite so easy or quick to remove the Cover Girl.

Incidentally, I use almond oil to remove mascara.  It's a very fine product - it's not slippery like mineral or baby oils are, plus it's not bad for you, as baby oil is purported to be lately.  Almond oil is gentle on the tender skin around your eyes and works beautifully to remove the Lancome mascara, so this is still my preferred combination.  But I do recommend giving Cover Girl a try - great products; great price!

Have you tried either?  What's your opinion?

i am having terrible issues with my eyelashes. They are thinner and seem to be different lengths. Seems no matter what brand I try my eyelashes look like a mess! Any suggestions? I have even contemplated false eyelashes but don't want to LOOK like I have false eyelashes.

thanks for your suggestions!

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Here is a suggestion. Try the false lashes that come in tiny bits instead of one long strip. They are easier to apply, and you can put them where you need trhem. Let me know how it works!

Hey Lisa, I had the same problem.  I started using Latisse. It is a perscription.  A bit pricey, but sooooo worth it. You need to use it for about 5 to 6 weeks to see the difference. But I now have to TRIM my lashes because they get sooooooooo long. They are filling in great and I am super happy.

I've read that it can permanently change your eye color to brown.  Did your doctor say anything about it?

someone also recommended using two different types of mascaras. One for length and one for thickness. Curl, use one and before it dries use the other. It has worked great!

I often use two different mascaras, which result in lashes that are both thick AND long. However, I can barely blink behind my glasses when I do that  :)

Lisa I am not a doctor , and, I have read hair loss can be connected with a thyroid issue.  You may want to have your thyroid checked if you have other symptoms that indicate some thyroid issues.

Okay -- You've caught my attention!  In what way is baby oil, for removing eye makeup, supposed to be bad for us?  I've been using this tried and true method forever....  Soon, oxygen is going to be found to be bad for us...

My favorite standby for mascara is Revlon.  Just about any type of Revlon mascara seems to really draw out my lashes, thicken and extend, and I even get the occasional compliment.  Can't find a reason to resort to some fancy-schmancy new mascara when the old one works as well as can be.  Good price, too.  Of course, your suggestion for using Cover Girl seems about the same genre/generation/cost....plus I could be that "Girl" again....

Baby oil is mineral oil based, which means it's a petroleum product. You don't want it on your skin being absorbed through your skin into your body. (Would you drink automotive oil?) A lot of things that were never good for us are just now being disclosed as a bad idea. I don't believe oxygen is one of them.

If the baby oil is so bad, why would we put this on our babies?  We are not talking about a quart at a time, a little dab will do ya.

We didn't know any better? Remember Thalidomide? Smoking? Drinking lots of milk?

Please think of skin as an organ. It needs to be able to breathe and we also absorb substances and nutrients through it.

I found two articles, both without anything for sale, that say that mineral oil is just fine to use. (I'm inclined to believe sources who aren't trying to sell me anything.)

Apparently, it has been used in cosmetics for over 100 years and is regulated for purity, etc. by the FDA. It has been thoroughly tested and not been found to cause cancer.

I wouldn't use anything to clean around my eyes that I wouldn't eat!  I keep a small bottle of olive oil and use a few drops every morning & night to clean my eyelids, then rinse well with warm water.  It works for me.

I use olive oil also.  Never heard of Abolene.  Is that a drug store product?

Glais said to KLE 09/09/2009, 05:18PM new!

Albolene is also used by a lot of people who work on stage to remove heavy pancake-type stage makeup. It works like magic. I would not use it around the eyes, however because of its density. I do not use Albolene or any other creme removers. I use olive oil and light cleanser for dry skin then moisturize.

oh. you might want to try a beauty supply store or call walgreens or cvs or another drug store or even walmart. if you live in a bigger city there might be a store that sells supplies for actors, dancers, etc...

MiMi said to Sandy Dumont 09/09/2009, 05:18PM new!

You should try abolene cream to remove all make up. I've been using it for 25 years and its better than anything I've ever tried. You will have to use a mild cleanser afterward but I'm sure you do the same after the almond oil.

Thanks for the mascara advise. I'm a lancome girl so I'll give it a whirl.

I too have been using Abolene for years.  I love it!  I have also found many other uses for it, one being putting it on thinly as lotion before bed.

I have very thin lashes and have tried many differnt brands in all price ranges.  My few of my favorites is Diorshow Iconic, Fiberwig, & Lash Stiletto from Maybelline. I will give Covergirl a try.  Thanks for the info.

Yes!  I used Estee Lauder's Projectionist for a couple of years and thought I had found the perfect mascara.  Recently, in a pinch, I bought a tube of Cover Girl's Volume masacara from the drug store and was happy to discover that it performed just as well, at under half the price!  Great find!

I just LOVE Maybelline's The COLOSSAL VOLUME Express mascara!! It contains collagen and is easily removed with a good quality eye makeup remover. It makes my lashes look nice and thick!

shaki said to Sandy Dumont 09/09/2009, 05:18PM new!

Thank you so much! I've been looking for a cheap but quality product.  And i'm diffently looking for the Almond Oil.  Is it from the health food stores or where can i get the pure form?

Sandy Dumont said to shaki 09/09/2009, 05:18PM new!

Shaki,

You can find it at most drugstores. I get mine from a health food store, because it is cold pressed and of a higher quality.
