Has anyone used this? If so what have the results been?

I started the internet dating process about 7 years ago, I met someone on E-Harmony and we have been together over 6 years.....I feel it is a good site, a long questionaire but I think we are very well matched.....enough alike to make it comfortable, and different enough to make it interesting.....I did try Match, American Singles, etc. etc., but really, if I went on today I KNOW some of the guys that were on those 6 years ago are still trolling for women.....which was the discouraging part to me.  I don't believe these same guys are on E-harmony because of the cost involved   E-Harmony costs a little money, and is a little slow with the matches if you stay close to your geographical area, which I did.  I don't think you can hurry with E-harmony...I was still happy with all the matches I got and their process of privacy until you are ready to release your information.   I would recommend it, although I'm sure some people do not have the success I have had.

In any event, caution is the word no matter what site you go to....meet in public and be very slow to give out personal information, addresses, etc.

Sunblossom:

My husband passed away Jan./09 - we had been together since I was 17. So needless to say this is a whole new ball game for me. I don't know if I want to date - but I know I want to connect with someone - if that makes any sense. I just got back from a week in Vegas - I took my four ( adult kids) had a great time with them - but there was just something missing. I am very comfortable on my own - and have traveled on my own - but I think I am open to at least connecting with someone.

Anways thanks for your input.

April, I agree with Sunblossom about eHarmony. I'm actually registered there right now and because I am in graduate school and have no flexibility about moving (and no desire to do so) at the present time, I chose my very local geographical area. I realize that will make things go a lot slower, but it is reality. So far I've met a couple of very nice men this way, though we were not well matched enough to proceed.

I also agree about the other sites. About six years ago when I was re-entering the world of dating, I looked at match.com. It was all new to me and I found it intriguing, and though I logged on and looked around, I didn't sign up. Just recently when I was deciding which site to register with, I went back to look at match.com again. Not only were the same men still there, but they still had the same old photos posted!!! In fact, that's how I recognized them from before. That did it for me. I chose eHarmony.

Take your time and be happy with your life as it is. Do other things. This is the same advice I give myself, and I know that when I am ready the right relationship will unfold.

I agree - I am in no rush - but I am at the stage of  lets see what happens. I am glad that I picked eHarmony - from what you have said and others - it seems to be the best site around.

Thanks for the input.

Thanks for the advice and feedback.  Good to hear from others who have been down this path.

I have been in the dating world for the past 4 years. I've checked out many, probably more than many!....and agree, on some sites, after four years I see some of the same men with the same pictures!!! I did pay for Yahoo personals and Match and did not find any better quality (for lack of a better word!) on paid sites as on free ones.

The largest and free single dating site I'd recommend is Plentyoffish.com. It's free and has a huge base of subscribers, plus if you sign up there is a wonderful forum. I've learned a lot about how and what men truly think.

Thank you Cara - I knew I had seen something on here about it - but I didn't even know where to begin to look for it.

You're so welcome! I found the above links by typing "eHarmony" into the search box at the top right corner of this page.

My daughter has tried eHarmony, but never had much results.  She is in her early twenties, and doesn't smoke or drink, so not in most of the "social circles" of her college classmates.

The site has a really extensive questionnaire. However, the cost is fairly hefty.  She has signed up, but not for the paid accounts.  Therefore, she cannot communicate with anyone unless it is a "free weekend".  The connection process is laborious and slow. I guess if you just want someone to chat with from time to time, it might be okay. She's only made it to the actual email (where you can chat outside of the "checkbox" limitations) with one person over the course of a year, so I wouldn't say it is too impressive.  I have no idea if the paid accounts are any better.

With the paid account I was on a date in less than a week with the person I am with now,,,6 years and counting...it was a lttle slow butI was ok with that.

It costme $40, I didn't think that was too hefty and worth it...
