Yesterday I started a post on how the shallow and - it's all about me - young women I have meet in the last few months.
Today I had a wonderful experience with a young man named Dustin.
I was on my to pick up my daughter at college. On my way out of town in a snow storm I say a guy - hitch hiking - I was ready to pass him - when I noticed a young pup running out into the highway through 4 lanes of traffic. I pulled over to grab the pup and the young man "Dustin" ran over to help me - the pup was friendly but wiggly - Dustin picked him up and I told him I was going to take him to my vet just back down the highway. He helped me to get the pup in the car - and I asked him where he was going - and I was going right through the place he needed to be dropped off. We got to the vets - Dustin carried in the pup - to the vet office. We left hoping that someone will adopt him - I was so tempted but I already have 3 dogs.
As I drove Dustin to his destination - we talked - we both own Choc. Labs - he and his Mom had just moved into our town - and he had only been at the high school for 5 days and hating it. He asked me if I remembered being 17 - and yes I did and we talked about what it was like "back in the day".
When I dropped him off - he thanked me for stopping to pick up the pup - he had been so worried he was going to be hit.
As he got out - he offered me his hand to shake, and thanked me again.
What a wonderful encounter. If that is the face of our youth I think we will be in good hands.
I hope I will be able to give Dustin a ride again. He helped me today - more then I helped him.

Trust is a beautiful attribute, April18, but be careful out there; that puppy could have been carrying a gun!
But seriously, please don't pick up hitchhikers--male or female.
How sad that all you got from reading my post - is I shoudn't pick up hitchhikers. I have noticed that in a few of my post - you are always telling me what not to do. I wasn't asking for advice on picking up hitchhikers - I was trying to share my optimism on today's youth.
Sorry you missed the point.
