Really depends on what interests you. Writing, knitting, scrap booking, model making, pottery the world of crafts is vast. Maybe research several on the internet and then roam around a craft shop for ideas.
Beading seems to be pretty popular right now. Bracelets, earrings, necklaces, etc. If you are looking to sell your craft, anything new is always good using an old idea. Taking old china and breaking/molding into design pieces and gluing onto different surfaces (furniture, mirrors, tiles, etc.) are something that's just taking off in the south, anyway. I live in the midwest (OH) and we're about 5 years behind the west coast, so not sure I'm helping you much! =) I love to go to the shows (craft & antique) and my daughter & I do some shows in the fall, so I'm always thinking of new ideas. If you want to talk more, send me a message and I'll tell you what I know as far as selling, etc., if this is the avenue you are pursuing. Blessings!
When I was recuperating from an accident, I started with crocheting, it hurt my arm to turn it that way. I did a hook rug, it turned out very nice but it was boring. I did cross stitching and embroidering, didn't flip my cookie. My family bought me a DS and the brain age game. And then I took up paint by number. I fell in love. I have some beautiful paintings all around my house. It's not new but it was very enjoyable. I even painted for some friends. I got lost in progress.
