I have read a few posts about menopause, but nothing thorough. I am 51 and it has hit me like a ton of bricks. I don't sleep, weepy, depressed. I have always taken care of myself with exercise, diet and supplements. I thought I was ahead of the curve with bio-identical hormones, but this has really knocked me out! Anyone else going through this??

Thank you for responding. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow about that very thing. I just don't want it to be a long term solution! I don't like being on meds as you said but sometimes you need them I guess. Today is another bad one, just hanging in there.
yes sure, I was thinking to write a word Horrible for my syntoms, but, it is all about estrogen, hormones then take care of your teeth, your weight, your bones, your skin, and the only way is for me to use a cream of estrogen and progesterone, a hormone treatment, and listen to me to be i peace with your life, that your life likes you.
Grace,
Yes, I'm on bio-identical hormones and they have checked the levels which seem to be fine, so I'm checking into some other things as well. I have everything to be grateful for and I just simply hate feeling like this. Everything makes me sad.

Recently I was introduced to a product call LeVive which is made up of the top 5 antioxidant fruit juices in the world Its made by www.ardysslife.com/thebodymagicstore and in the last six weeks all my symptoms have all but disappeared. So glad to see this post! I'm also 51. Havent had a period since October. The hot flashes are HORRIBLE! I can tell when I'm going to have a hot flash because I become very agitated for a few seconds and then the hot flash and then I'm OK again. Craziness! I'm having many symptoms that have been very difficult to deal with. Fatigue being one of the worst. Cannot take hormones because of fibroids. Decided today that I am going to watch my food intake very carefully. No more frozen lunches. Going to eat more fruits and vegetables and drastically limit processed food. Oh and going to get more exercise. I've been so tired I haven't been able to exercise but will force myself just to feel better. Hope all goes well for you. Please check back in OK?

I would add juicing to your routine. This is the one thing that helps me most besides exercise. I haven't been able to exercise recently due to a bladder problem (another menopause thing!). So I'm working my way back to walking on my treadmill. I'm with you though, I'm so tired most days from lack of sleep that just the thought of exercise is overwhelming, but I always feel better when I do it.

I went through menopause young....early 40's. Also at that time was the worst time of my life with family drama. I can't even tell you what was menopause and what was situational. Depression, thoughts of suicide, etc. It was a horrible, horrible. time. I finally got help with anti depressants and I believe they saved my life. As far as menopausal symptoms, I was HOT ALL THE TIME! Flashes? What flashes? I was a constant flash! Periods just pretty much stopped. I was on hormone replacement for maybe a year and then the next scare about those came out. I weaned off very slowly and never noticed any side effects. Periods didn't come back....hallelujah!!! I don't miss Aunt Flo one iota!
I think menopause is very individual. Please see your doctor. You don't have to be feeling like this.
I just started an anti-depressant about 10 days ago, so I'm hoping it will help. I agree, this has been just a horrible, horrible time. I hate to put my family through this and my husband has been an absolute angel about it! I'm on bio-identical hormones so I still have periods which means I'm perimenopausal. It's like puberty, only worse!
I'm 56 and have been menopausal for the last 5 years. Perimenopause is the worst. Because of allergies I couldn't take hrt so I used otc herbal estroven, it really helped with the hot flashes and just being uncomfortable in my own skin feeling. I can tell you it will get better. The first year was the worst for me heavy bleeding, hot flashes, hives, sleeping problems and emotional upheaval. Exercise helped with the depression for me. LOL I wore out two treadmill belts and worn out shoes every three months. HUGS
Thanks for your post. Today has been a really bad one. Weepy, just weepy and I have a bladder condition now that has made exercise tough and I was always a big exerciser. So I'm trying to ride it out. Feeling it letting it go. Working with healthcare professionals too. Thanks for your kind words.
You are not alone.. I'm 52 and having horrible depression lately. I'm new to this site but getting alot out of the logs. Let me know how the anti-depressants work for you. This is a great support site.
I'll be 52 in March and Ihave never felt this bad! Never! I'll let you know if they help. Right now I will take any help that I can get!
Hi Pamela,
I hope you're doing better. I am 55 and my menopause began at 50. I use estrogen patches and progesterone capsules and experience virtually no symptoms. For me the decision making process re treatment was all about quality of life. Having a family history of depression and having gone through two major depressive episodes in my life (the last one of which lasted almost 5 yrs), I decided I would take the hormones and not risk another downfall. Luckily, I have none of the risk factors heart probs, family h/o breast cancer, etc., so that helped. Plus, I informed myself as best I could.
Yes, there are risks, but there are risks in getting in a car and driving down the road. The way I look at it, it's better to have a short and quality life than a long and crappy one. lol.
I am not recommending this particular treatment for you or anyone. Just sharing my decision-making process. What I would recommend is that, if you can, go to a GYN that specializes in menopause, especially one that still does research. If you have a medical school nearby, all the better. That way, you'll get the latest info. Then, weigh your risks and benefits and decide what you want for your life.
Good luck!
This is exactly what I do. Bioidentical estrogen and bioidentical progesterone capsules cyclicly. Plus I adjust doses now and then with estrogen gel and progesterone cream Works for me. I'm with you about life. I want quality, not length necessarly.
oh my ... the 7 dwarfs of meno. I lived it and has been the worse period of my life and it has lasted for about 10 years! Sorry, no good news from me. Maybe you should try the biochemicals that Suzanne Somers has been on and loves it. She wrote the book, "The Sexy Years".... all about menopause.
Yes, I use the bio-identical hormones that Suzanne Somers talks about. Up until this year I did pretty good. Of course, having a constant irritable bladder has only made everything seem much, much worse. 10 years, I don't know how you have done it?
well the worse year was from 54-55. During that year i seriously thought i was never going to get over it. The first years were very subtle... aches and pains, mood swings, sour stomach, etc, it gradually got worse. After the 55th birthday i changed my lifestyle,,, lots of exercise, trying to eat healthy to avoid the stomach discomfort. I have given up on ever being the same person before i reached 50. Now at 59, i have better days than bad ones. As long as i can function, i am content. BTW my healthcare physician could not help at all. Only to give me hormones, that is all she could do. She had breast cancer and although she tried not to form an opinion of the hormones, she offered them but i was skeptical. I took them at first and felt like my chest was going to come out of my mouth. The boobs got so big! I gained weight and felt totally miserable, so i stopped taking them and decided to go cold turkey. I have a family history of very bad menopause so basically is grin and bareit. Oh forgot to tell u, sugar spikes the hot flashes and i am a sugar addict. I fight that battle everyday, but i feel the difference when i eat sugar, the nights are drenched.
