Comfortable shoes that aren't frumpy

Where can I find flattering dress shoes that I can be comfortable in? I need heels for evening wear or dressy events.

My favorite place is Zappos, they are on the shopping page of my website - http://www.goldivas.com/shopping/default.aspx, you can search by style, color, heel height, etc. You will find a much larger selection than you would find in a "bricks & mortar" store.

Mine is Cole-Haan with Nike Air, as well.  Love this conversation...and it reminds me to have more understanding about why it was "mother" wore combat boots!

Cole Haan has a terrific line of shoes with Nike cushioning. I own two pair, and am looking for a third pair. I am just waiting for the next sale!

In her Vibrant Nation interview, fashion designer Babette recommends a new shoe line, Glory Chen. Babette says, "The shoes are fabulous. They look like grown-up, sophisticated campers. They’ve got heels but they’re not spikey, and they have nice padded insides so they’re comfortable without looking dowdy. They look very contemporary."; Read Babette's full recommendation.

I agree with Anno, Cole Haan with Nike Air are fabulous. You really can still wear heels, look good and feel good. They have many styles with the Nike Air feature. You will not be disappointed and worth the price.

Check out these tall boots (http://www.fabulousafter40.com/glam-plan-ezine/9-tips-for-how-to-wear-tall-boots/) and try to duplicate them in comfortable brands. These 40+ ladies are fashion experts.  I haven't gone wrong with their suggestions yet.

Comfy, please, give me a pair of Christian Loubitin's any day.

I hear ya!

I have some petite clients that do just  that. Until one day they'll also need other options.

For the rest (who  are more similar to  the ladies who are commenting)--I suggest Tods (if they are willing to "invest- or if there's a sale--etc). For comfort AND style they are unequaled--and Prada Sport makes close second. For my requirements only Cole Haan (and I know them all) makes a decent attempt at design but often looks over-styled/ too cute somehow.Like in the area of clothing --women who seek both (comfort and style) need to find comfortable shoes that are not exclusively targeted at  them. Hey- I know it's difficult--hence my books, and my daily searches for my clients.

Look for the Sofft line of shoes. Very comfortable and classy looks.

Aerosoles are smart in trying to copy the styles of Prada and Tods. They are more affordable --so worth a try.

I have Morton's neuroma and Fibro in both feet.  I swear by SoftWalk shoes.  They are wonderfully padded on the inside, and very durable.  They are over $100, but my shoes are still going strong after 2-3 years!  I use Zappos.com and Shoebuy.com
