I am looking for a website / clothing store that has great looking, head turning outfits, for a 52 year old, professional woman, 5'5", 119 lbs, blonde hair, blue eyes, big heart, modest yet not frigid.

Me too - although 54, feels like 22, 5'8", want to be 150 lb., green eyed, brunette!  When are the manufacturers going to wake up and see that we have the $ and are more than willing to spend it on something that we like!

Check out CAbi which stands for Carol Anderson by invitation. The clothes are really great. They are stylish and fit well, trendy but not too young. Great fabrics and colors and lots of spandex. There is a fall and spring line each year and the items often work together from season to season. It is an inhome party-like atmosphere where the clothes come to you and your friends. The rep presents the line and then you can try on the samples, order and the hostess receives the clothes. I have been hosting these parties for the last four years and my friends love to come and love the clothes. There are nice perks for the hostess as well. Check out the styles at www.cabionline.com although it is sometimes difficult to see what the clothes look like from the web site. (They encourage you to see and feel and try on the clothes.) The fun thing is you get your girlfriends opinions about how things look on you.

I went to a Cabi party a couple of years ago.  They did have some nice things, and the consultant was an amazing presenter.  She actually came from out-of-state and was on a Cabi tour.

did you buy anything?

Fluffy in NH said to cr8tive.chris 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

I just checked out the Cabi website ... fabulous!  I can't tell, though, if there are plus size clothes available ... do you know?

LadyM said to Fluffy in NH 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

I have purchased clothers from CABI at a friend's party.  The party was a fun way to shop with girlfriends and the presenter as fabulous and really knew the line and was extremely helpful!  Found the slacks, shorts, dresses to run on the small size.  However, the blouses were OK for fit.

I looked at their website cr8tive and really liked the clothes, but they only go up to size XL.  I wear a 1X in tops.  Please tell them to consider offering larger sizes in their lines.  Thanks for sharing the site with us.

Have you tried the new Jockey Person to Person Collection?  It is the newest division of Jockey, but not underwear.  Sold in the home one on one or with a group of friends. Goes from XS to XXL. Easy Care/ Easy Wear with the mix and match.

Have you tried Jockey Person to Person? Home shows, regular Jockey brand we all know and love for comfort. Here is a web site to check out. www.myjockeyp2p.com/mkk  They have business along with casual. You can order on line or from a home show.   Good luck.

does anyone love Eileen Fisher OR J.Jill as much as I do? I am a modest spender and mix these two Eileen reserved for basics which last forever...I also love Travel Smith,,,oddly enuf.

jensmom said to i am not your mother 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

i do like Eileen Fisher.  i have a suit I bought a couple years ago from Dillard's and it costs about $800.00  It is really nice, but I'd like to not spend quite that much.

gigi said to i am not your mother 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

I love JJill clothing.  Very stylish and comfortable and are some of my favorite outfits.  I have to say their new clothes for the Spring 2110 are somewhat dissapointing....they are that rumpled look and very slouchy...hope they go back to their regular line for the next season.  I do like Eileen Fisher and they are great quality, but they are on the expensive side.  I just do not want to spend as much on clothing since I am retired and not in that working world anymore.

Have your tried Chicos? Great style for middle aged women and affordable.   KAT

I absolutely L-O-V-E Chico's...in fact, I'm wearing one of my Chico's outfits today! I especially like their Traveler's Collection. It's flattering on almost every body type.

I also shop Coldwater Creek; although some of their items are "old" looking. I'm only 50...I don't feel old (most days!), and I'm certainly not ready to dress "old"!!

Happy shopping!

LadyM said to golfwidow4everrr 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

I, too, love Chico's since I can always count on their sizing and quality and NOT have it cost me an arm and a leg!!  I used to buy most of my clothes from a friend who sold Doncaster clothes out of her home...fabulous clothes, knew I wouldn't see most of them on other women BUT they were very costly ... couldn't get a suit for much under $400 -- just don't spend that much any more.

Chico's is a great alternative these days ... only they don't really have too many suits

golfwidow4everrr said to LadyM 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

true...not many suits at chico's, but I did see a nice suit a few weeks ago at JC Penney. JCP has really changed since we were kids - it's no longer our mother's "catalog store". They actually have nice clothes at very affordable prices.

candylady said to golfwidow4everrr 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

It probably is still our mother's "catalog store".  We have just become our mothers. lol

golfwidow4everrr said to candylady 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

gee...thanks, candy! you have reminded me that despite my best efforts to break the mold --- I HAVE BECOME MY MOTHER!!!

BreatheDeep said to golfwidow4everrr 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

I'm with you...I came across a Coldwater Creek outlet where I live and I do love a lot of there colors/fabrics but I did feel "dated" in some of the pieces...

AuntieM said to jensmom 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

My friend and I have found that if we buy the "basics" (skirts, pants and maybe a dress) at a regular dept. store - we can run into the teeny bop stores (forever 21, charlotte russe) and buy some inexpensive pieces to make them look stylish and trendy but not too young.  It's a balance. It's an art form. It's fun!!

Melinda Giordano said to AuntieM 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

Exactly.  Even better than the bop are the vintage stores!

BreatheDeep said to jensmom 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

Check out Soft Surroundings...I'm a petite and am appalled by what the stores have to offer...cutesy little collars. etc. The print I hate most are the retro prints that they have out...like I want to have a shirt that looks like I dug it out of the 70's section of my closet and wore it again at 50+. Yuck! And I detest the frumpy look-I am not ready to curl up in a ball and die yet. I love my age and I want it to show that I do...

Adornments by Milani said to BreatheDeep 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

I looked at this site and there are some clothes that caught my eye, but their clothes seem to fit on the loose side.  I am very petite so almost anything looks like a tent on me.  Is the XS true to size?

Willow said to Adornments by Milani 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

their sizes run on the larger size.  I ordered a medium in a shirt and it was huge on me.

Christine Posti said to jensmom 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

It's been fun to look at all the websites recommended so far. Thanks to everyone who has been making suggestions! Even though I found a few things I liked, I think I'll stick to Talbot's. I like their classic look, great quality, and beautiful colors. (Yes, some of their clothes can look a little frumpy but those few can easily be avoided!) And if you are fortunate enough to have a Talbot's Outlet in your city, you can find last year's clothes at a terrific price.

JT said to Christine Posti 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

CAbi is great & quality too, JCPenney's can be good- especially petite pants, Talbot's is good with great quality...I would also add/recommend Ann Taylor.  I have found some of the coolest clothes on sale racks at Ann Taylor stores.  When we travel I always try to find out if there is an Ann Taylor I can go to.  The clothes are more stylish and fun...but not teenage!

sherylsplace said to jensmom 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

I worked during the Christmas holidays one year at White House Black Market.  I'd always thought their clothes to be made for the under 40 woman.  However, once I began to work there I realized there were items that fit me and were very flattering.  Customers of all ages would come in to shop including a sweet woman in her 80's who was spending the gift card sent to her by one of her children. I was not familiar with some of their styles, but was pleasantly surprised at how some of them looked on me.

Even though that was a few years ago I still have many of the clothes and continue tol wear them.  They carry two lines of denim jeans...ones that are low -rise and slim cut (Noir) and another that are mid-rise with a curvier cut (Blanc.)

You'll also find jackets, dress pants, pencil skirts and tops and sweaters.  Their items coordinate nicely with one another as they are all in the black-grey-white family.  So you can add to your wardrobe each season.

They do have an online store (whitehouseblackmarket.com) where you can order and if you wish to return something you can do it through the mail or at one of their stores.  The only drawback would be not knowing exactly how their sizing runs in proportion to your figure type.   But don't let that stop you from trying them out.

They are owned by Chicos, another womens clothing store you may be familiar with.

Try Target.com they have a Petites category. Nice clothes reasonably priced.

photosbyslc said to jensmom 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

Have you surfed the Chicos.com website yet?  Chico's has great head-turning clothing for stylish women.

buzzingbee said to photosbyslc 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

When I went in to this site they have a very strange sizing chart, and when I looked it up, they don't seem to go below size 4, am I correct?  Doesn't work for a small petite.  Looked good otherwise.

rosiemay said to buzzingbee 01/11/2010, 01:38AM new!

Yes the sizing is unique at Chicos. It goes 1 2 3 and sometimes 1.5 and 2.5. I find the 3 is good for me as I wear a 14 to 16. The 2 is a 10-12 and the 1 is 6-8. I like to shop at Chicos bu sometimes they are too generous with the sequins. I agree with the other poster AUNTIEM that if I have the basics in pants and tops then I can make them look different and updated with the right scarf and jewelry. The retailers are missing the market for our age group that have money to spend and desire to have fun with their clothes. My friend and I are inour early 60's and we dropped in the forever 21 the other day but it really was for people much younger than us. We like Talbots, Chicos, Coldwatercreek and Nordstroms. I will shop on line at Travelsmith, Normthompson, orvis, shopthebay. I have gotten some layering pieces at Lands End also. I agree that Talbots has gotten a little frumpy.

You can check out Jockeyp2p.ca or .com if in the states. These clothes offer something for everyone and they are fabulous. I am in Canada but the company is in the states too. It is a home based business and has great prices and clothes. They are mix and match, so you can buy different sizes to fit your body type. Our size range from xs - xxxl in most of the line. I think you will be surprised.

A place where you can get professional suits is barriepace.com

Are you living in Canada?  If so check out the Hudson's Bay Company Petite Department, they have really nice stuff
