Mother of the Groom dress

My son will be married in St. Martin in the Caribbean this summer on the beach. It will be a casual wedding. Any ideas on where to purchase an outfit for this occasion (on-line or the Philadelphia area)?

Mon Cheri has the most beautiful gowns and believe me, I searched on-line (for months) at every website there is! Most of their dresses are long & formal, but some of them can be altered to "tea length" without ruining the design. ; ; As a matter of fact.....I spent so much time hunting, that when I finally made a decision and was ready to order, it was too late. Most all on-line speciality shops take 12-14 weeks delivery time. ; ; I did end up finding a beautiful silk dress for my son's wedding at a K. Renee store in my area. (They also have a web-site.) I was just glad the sales girl talked me into trying it on because it was something that I would never have picked out.....but it looks, and feels, and fits, fabulous!

My son is getting married this summer as well. His wedding is a bit more formal than 'on the beach' (though that would have been MY preferance). I searched and searched in stores and on-line as well. I found what I considered the "PERFECT" dress for me at Ann Taylor. But, unfortunately for me, it was the same dress the bridesmaids are wearing. So, I had to find another dress. They have a really nice selection in the "Celebrations" tab. Be careful at the stores though, because not all stores carry the Celebrations dresses. As the other reader said, be careful with the specialty shops/websites, because it does take a long time to get them. Hope this helps you out.

Go to J. Crew.com- returns are simple.Mom of the groom can look stylish and get a little wilder than mom -of -the bride I think. Stay away from baby pastels and think rich summery floral hues like violet, fuchsia, deep rose, shocking pink and since you'll be outdoors and beachy, get great jeweled flat sandals you can dance in, stick to easy empire or strapless

styles, add a little shrug or cardy for coverage and killer earrings !

Some good tips below, I would add to first have in mind what looks good on your body type. Think what neckline, and what type of sleeves you want. Shop with a plan and you will stay on track.

I think shopping on line can be dangerous, since fit is the most important thing!! I'm from Philly and there are tons of great places for a casual dress. Daffys on Samsone and 7th is great! Walk down Walnut and check out all the shops there.

The responses below are very good. If you want to have a larger array of options, try just putting in Philly in the dress shops section here http://www.gatheringguide.com/ec/bridal_shops_dresses.html and it will list all the shops in the area. I discovered this while trying to find a dress for my daughter's wedding last March, in a city I was totally new in.

One more thing... we have a new e-book out called Dressing the Mother of the Bride. What makes this book different is that it gives you a complete workbook to fill out that will make choosing your dress a snap!

Check it out here. http://www.fabulousafter40.com/products/ebooks/mother-of-the-bride/

HI!

I'm from the Phill area and I think you should stay away from traditional bridal stores. Try Daffy's on Sansome for great finds that are discounted. Also, I think you should not try to buy on line unless you have tried the EXACT Dress on in the store. Fit is the MOST important issue, and it takes lots of trying on to find one that will flatter most.

Good luck!
