Charmaine Coimbra

My Blog Circle:

Thanks for visiting Charmaine's Muse Pallet.

I assemble and collect postings from my other blog sites and craft my new opines and blatherings about--well--just about anything that yanks my brain on any given day.

My published writing began as a staff writer for the Antelope Valley Press in Palmdale, CA where I wrote feature articles and a weekly column.

These stories led to my freelance career and publication in The Los Angeles Times, The Sacramento Bee, Women's World, Cat Magazine, Ford Times, The Fresno Bee, The Albuquerque Journal and more.

I filled in my freelance income as a public relations and marketing director--until I bought a bookstore in Santa Fe, NM.

In 2003 my first fiction work, The Gathering Basket, was published.

I'm presently working on a memoir, at the suggestion of many readers: "We Were The California Girls--Seeking the Sun, Sea and Spirit."  I'm writing the draft online at Charmaine's Muse Pallet.  I welcome commentary.

As a member of the Society of Environmental Journalists, I write and edit Neptune 911.  It's about our trash, our seas, ourselves.

The Daily Prism is a daily post about what's good around us.

When not writing, I'm a volunteer docent for Friends of the Elephant Seal.  FES informally educates the thousands of visitors who come to view the northern elephant seal at Piedras Blancas, Ca.

I'm also active with The California Gray Whale Coalition.

Hobbies and hidden talents include cooking, playing piano (with Cole Porter hits my passion), reading, wine tasting, gardening and hiking.

I'm married, have two magnificent daughters, two spectacular grandchildren, and a "sugar" cat.

my VN interview

How did you get to where you are now?

I arrived bruised and bandaged, but full of positive energy and drive.

How do you see yourself differently now than you did 10 years ago?

....about 10 pounds more of me reflecting in the mirror.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I will have finished writing "We Were The California Girls," a memoir presently being written on my blog site, www.charmainesmusepallet.wordpress.com

a postcard to my younger self

Charmaine, you are okay.  Something's can't be changed, so deal with it.

my role models

She remains unnamed, but was married to a rich man, raised, 3 beautiful chidlren, served her community at all times with humility and wisdom,  and then died much too young, but with grace, from brain cancer.

Guns and Lilies

A rambunctious passion fruit vine overcompensates itself in a portion of my garden.  A few under planted white calla lilies collide with the ravenous vine.  But the lily’s determination to break through…
