If everyone praises your performance at work, but you know you are being undervalued and underpaid, change jobs.  Many top women professionals cite staying in one job too long as their big mistake.

If you must work, work fulltime. A lifetime of part-time work will leave you with little pension when you "retire."

"If you are applying to a local business--It's not a bad idea to get dressed in a no-nonsense outfit and go around to the shop/office/temp agency or employers.  They will then see the actual person, note your friendly demeanor and eagerness to work. ..." (read comment)
