Jacquie Mackenzie

I live now in Central Mexico; I vote in Arizona. I will receive my PhD from the University of Arizona at the age of 63; over 40 years after I promised that I would complete one. I am doing the very best work of my life! I am a volunteer teacher in Central Mexico in a small village school that my husband designed and oversaw the construction. I have a new 4 year old mare that I love to ride. She was given to me a week ago. She is being trained to join in our equine therapy program. Life is perfect.

my VN interview

How did you get to where you are now?

Always doing what I felt in my heart was fair and never turning my back on serving others.

How do you see yourself differently now than you did 10 years ago?

I am much stronger now and more confident.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Being the best teacher I can be for Mexican families and visiting students.

a postcard to my younger self

Jacque,

You were a martyr; you have always been a martyr. About 5 years ago you added the "I" to your name to remind yourself that in order to be of service to others you have to take care of yourself. Continue to recall that wise choice now and reflect on how many years you ignored that need.

I want to make Dallas the national model city of how to appropriately reach Latino students of any age. This book might become a best seller for educators in schools and corporations and then we will have rural libraries all over Mexico. You just never know what you can do until you try.read more »
