my VN interview

How did you get to where you are now?

Self discipline and memories of my mother's good advice.

How do you see yourself differently now than you did 10 years ago?

No longer under the thumb of my ex's manipulative family - now divorced and independent.  The change was a scary and lonely time, but I'm now feeling happy and every day of this freedom is a gift to be appreciated.  This new life has given me something to work for, the kind of hope that helps a person overcome depression.

I spend lots of time keeping in touch with friends in my old home town, and my sons of course, but I am gradually fitting in here in a new country.  Why did I run so far?  Haven't figured that out yet.  I guess I just didn't want to have to explain to a large number of acquaintances why I chose to divorce - I'd rather just leave quietly and start out again.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Enjoying my new home, hopefully still in current relationship, doing as much as possible to help others less fortunate.  Likely a grandmother by then.

a postcard to my younger self

Hey Jodie,

Thanks for working so hard and saving for the future.  You always had an image of your best friend, the 'older Jodie' and here we are now.  Thank you for keeping yourself in shape, all those hours in the gym and eating well were worth it...I still feel healthy and happy.

my role models

Various friends for their own unique reasons. Number one would be my Mom who was a great and courageous lady who died way too young.  Her voice still resonates when I am making decisions;  she died 22 years ago.
